  1. The shops not closed down guys, it's open til 8.30 every night
  2. Sorry, maybe i misread the posts. I didn't hear him asking for money. I wouldn't send money to any1 that i didn't know personally. Also having children, i wouldn't invite any1 into my house....But if sending someone some supernoodles & dogmeat were to be my biggest loss, then guess what?? I could swallow that....If he is in the same situation later on and has declined the help that has been offered then maybe we do have the right to judge....but until then lets be as supportive as we can or move on to another post that we ARE interested in....
  3. When we were in WA in October, we came across a family who had had a really tough time where they were down to their last dollar and had no job either. They had a little 8 year old girl to worry about. They were temporary residents and told me that if they had been permanent residents that they would have received help. Is this because they had a child? Or was she mis-informed? Not that we are intending to be on benefits as i'm sure dis scot didn't either, it is a kind of safety net incase you end up in this situation. No one knows whats around the corner. Im not in WA until Sep so i can't help but i'm so humbled to know that there are people like you guys out there helping those who need it.
  4. hi Gypsy, i am going in Sep, and after looking around we have decided to go with Lets-perth. They are as reasonable as you are going to get and they have some decent looking properties. We have rented 2 months with them and decided to rent a car for the same period through them as well. Hope you get something. It's a worry eh!
  5. Hi, we are going at the end of the year too. Just the 3 of us as the teenagers are not coming:frown:. We are not too sure where we are going to settle yet. Hubby liked down south (mandurah area) and i was thinking more of Joondalup area lol. Who knows where we'll end up. Be nice to catch up with others that are going to be in the same boat regardless where we are tho.
  6. Hi there toothpixie, We've been to Coolum many times as we have family in Qld. Just along the road from you (bus service ok) is the Sunshine Coast Plaza which is in Maroochydore, i know there's a medicare office in there. We are emigrating to WA in Sep/Nov as it was easier to get our visas this way, but the sunshine coast is lovely and there are lots of things to do and see. I'm sure you'll love it.
  7. Hi there, we were looking for advice on wether to bring our car or not. It is worth it to ship it over, but we don't know how much we'll have to pay at the other end. The car is a Mazda 6 (2007) with 36500 miles on the clock. Anyone know approximately how much it'd be worth in Oz and the tax/duty we'd have to pay on it?
  8. Thanks everyone for your points of view. I keep yo-yoing back and forward, BUT, today he was getting his haircut and the groomer had to put him in an open pen, like a kids playpen, for a few minutes, and he was yelping and ripping the newspaper that was on the floor. He hates being cooped up. Think thats made up my mind. You are right, it is harder for us than it will be for him and i just needed to get others to verify that for me. Just the past few months he has started to hate being in the car if i drive more than 40mph which never used to bother him before, so i suppose thats another issue. I want to take him for selfish reasons, so as long as i know he won't pine for us,which he didn't do when we did our reccie for 4 weeks, then i think it'd be in his best interest to stay wi his gran:sad:. Thanks again everyone.
  9. Hi there, we or should i say "I" am in a bit of an emotional mess. My hubby says thats it's better 2 leave our 13 year old furry baby behind as he'd stay with his gran and be happy and not be stressed out with the whole flight and being in quarantine for 1 month. Whereas my vet reckons that my boy is fit and healthy and isn't like a 13 year old. I can't cope with the thought of leaving him behind (although he loves his gran and will be spoilt). I also couldn't live with myself if he didn't make the journey. Has anyone left their 13 year old dog at home and if so how is he coping without you? I know it sounds silly but in my mind he'll be wondering where i've gone. HELP!
  10. We are emigrating at the end of the year and were wondering wether anyone would be interested in a house swap? We have a 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom (2 en-suite), large kitchen/dining/living area, living room with balcony and seperate office adjoining the house. We are situated at the foot of the hills 12 miles from stirling. We are central to glasgow and edinburgh with excellent public transport at the bottom of the road. The town that we live in has all amenities from baker - butcher to hairdressers and doctors. In fact anything that you would need. We would need at least 3 bedrooms, preferably 4 and are hoping for sep/oct but are really quite flexible. If anyone is interested in a swap for at least 6 months then please get in touch.
  11. I did think of that too, however, that tends to be the way that house swapping works BUT we are not bound by any rules and are flexible to what suits the other party too. I'd prefer it myself if we did it the way you are suggesting but don't know how it'd work.
