Just wanted to add my bit---10 years ago I took a loan in oz in order to move to UK and paid it off from here within 9months as the UK pound was strong then. Heading back to oz soon as we will still have debt here, I.e we paid for our family flights on credit card plus we will live off UK credit for s while in oz till we get sorted. But we will take advantage of strong oz dollar and pay back as much as we can quickly. Not ideal but if we had to wait here to 'save up' it'd never happen. I'd much rather pay a bank interest and sit in the sunshine by the harbour bridge. But hey, that's what I want and everyone is different. So do what you want!

I found out by chance when I called the airline to check cost of an extra bag. I too had to email copy of he visa and they said, yep, 40kg!

Hi all, Just thought I'd let people know that I recently booked one way flights to Oz with Singapore Airlines and have since found out that they will double the normal luggage allowance you can travel with (not carry on, but the big bag) if you hold a permanent migrant visa and are using the visa for the first time to enter the country. Just thought I'd let people know as it's quite useful!! Best to contact the airline to confirm you hold the right type of visa etc.

Hi all, I've read the forums for ages but never joined - but just wanted to give a little hope to any July/August applicants as it seems that not many visas are coming through lately! We applied on 15th August and actually had our visa approved at the start of January. I feel bad that people have been waiting longer and that there is no rhyme or reason as to why we were granted early except perhaps a well timed email to our CO at the start of the year. We never heard from our CO nor contacted them whilst awaiting the visa (except that first email in Jan asking about the possibility of travelling on a holiday visa) and we were not at all expecting things to be granted quickly. We are married with 2 kids and can't imagine that there would be anything to doubt our case (but most cases seem straight forward anyway). Just wanted to let people know that they are working on them .... And also, on booking tickets to Oz with Singapore Airlines - found out that any immigrants with the appropriate visa are allowed double their luggage limit - which is quite handy to know!
