  1. He actually contacted me by mobile a few times.... Sounded really well educated and knowledgable .... Scary stuff! i hope he is tracked down.... What a sleaze ball !
  2. Just seen this.... It seems it all changed in 2009... http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/457-health-insurance-faq-visa-holder.htm
  3. I think you guys on 457 visa also need private health cover....?
  4. Hi, just wondering if any one knows how property managers assess affordability for rental property applicants? ie 20% of weekly net income etc?
  5. We are waiting on this too Submitted ours last week
  6. I've had a pretty good quote from them too, but am nervous to book them as we've never used them before (we've done this a few times!)
  7. All depends on what you can afford Personally speaking...8k for a plane ride..madness!
  8. Seems odd to me......where did you think the money was coming from to pay the credit card repayment.....? You may just have to use that credit card to pay back the government!
  9. Oh my, I 'm so sorry you are having such a tough time I think it's a decision only you can make based on how you think you can cope with all of this. Being newly separated, potentially poorly baby on the way, and 4 children to care for, places you on a huge emotional roller coaster. My husband was diagnosed with advanced cancer in 2011 when we were in Brisbane, and it was a complete nightmare! When life throws us these horrid curve balls decision making is never easy. Good luck with any decision you make xx
  10. We came back last December as my husband was diagnosed with cancer....lets just say 7 months on, we are booking flights back to Australia. But definitely give it more time....hopefully you'll settle back in when the weather is better
  11. Graham, how is the move with this company going? They sent us a really low quote and we were suspicious of them...
  12. We've used overseas packer and movers a few times (don't ask) They are always fantastic and reasonably priced.
  13. We had a ridiculously cheap quote from them! All other companies we contacted were baffled by it, and said it just wasn't financially viable....very suss if you ask me!
  14. thecappersinaustralia best wishes, Beepbeep
  15. Hi there! I have had sooooo many messages I can't keep up . We are leaving on the 3rd December (earlier than we originally thought) So I have had to list a load of stuff on ebay under the user name thecappersinaustralia :-) as my husband and I were beginning to panic about time 8-0 I will be listing things like fridge, washing machine, beds etc in the next week or so. Thanks, Beepbeep
  16. I always just ask them to come and inspect it a couple of days early...hand the keys over then too. Never been a problem (we've moved a lot!!!!) LOL
  17. I think I'll get all overcome and burst into tears when I finally get to step into a UK supermarket again:biggrin:
  18. I used to live in Chelmsford! It's quite a nice town, not far from anything, homes are reasonably priced etc. Any other questions, please ask
  19. You have hit the nail on the head Sapphire...we become so wrapped up in what we are gaining by moving to Oz that we forget what we are leaving behind, and how important those things are. My husband was diagnosed with a life threatening illness, and right there and then I thought what the heck am I supposed to do now!? Times like that make you realise how important it is to have family around...not just for us adults, but our kids too :-( Yes, we all make friends bla bla bla, but at the end of the day, they all have their own lives to lead...
  20. No, I don't think we would (health related personal reasons) However I have made some nice friends and enjoyed the variety of experience it has brought to my career. We came here back when the exchange rate was great so we haven't suffered financially and will gain again when returning. I obviously have no right to judge others decisions or financial positions, but personally speaking I would never come here with the exchange rate/UK housing market as it currently stands...life here is so expensive! Starting again, trying to buy a home, get set up etc with minimal funds would be a scary prospect :-(
  21. Depends on the size of the vehicle I think...
  22. Hi there, we are moving back to the UK in dec 2012 and have a house full of stuff to sell. it will take far too long to list it all on here so feel free to contact me if you are newly arrived and need anything....it will all be going on eBay if not sold before hand :-)
