  1. Anyone know if you can delay your temporary 309 visa converting to a permanent 100 visa?
  2. Alan, do you know if this is also true for shares? I have posted here but no replies yet. I thought you would be subject to CGT in Australia from a) the day you arrive or b) the day you start work and pay tax
  3. Few questions: Q1: If I sell my UK shares from Australia, will the UK gains be subject to CGT in Australia? Q2: If they are subject to Australian CGT, do they attract CGT from the date of purchase in the UK, or from the date I enter to live in Australia, so any further capital gain from when I arrive, ignoring all previous gains? Background info I am on a 309 temporary visa and intend to enter the country in April/May 2014. I know if you are on a temporary visa, gains on overseas real estate are not subject to CGT in Australia. The situation changes once you obtain permanent residency.
  4. 1. What is the max that can be transferred? 2. And does it need to be declared anywhere for tax purposes? Or declared to any authorities even if UK income tax has been paid? Regarding 2., assume not if it us UK income that has been previously taxed.

  6. Boom! Visa granted today! I could probably have had it sooner if I hadn't stuffed about with the medical check. Doesn't matter as we're not going to Oz until next year. PS. What a complete waste of money - this is no more than a fund raising exercise for the Oz government!! By the time new applicants are done they'll have spent close to £3000.
  7. OK, I finally pulled my finger out and got my medical check done earlier this week. £270 for 90 minutes of torture and fear of getting mugged by unsavory characters in the waiting room. Can see why the Oz govt has such a strict application process.
  8. Thanks guys I've asked her a few times but I'm just emailed back a copy and paste job from the PDF booklet...
  9. Question: I've not submitted my medical yet. I applied in September 2012. Do you just hang about waiting for the CO to tell you when to have it done?
  10. I applied back in September 2012 and am still waiting... need to do my medicals at some point..
  11. Nice work and congrats to everyone how has their visa! Any Sep/Oct applicants with an update? I've heard nothing... still need to do my medicals...
  12. Congrats to those who have just had their application approved! Anyone September/October 2012 applicants who have an update? I've heard nothing...
  13. Welcome aboard. From what I've read people tell their CO when they intend to resign and fly out so the visa can be granted. If she resigns in May the visa should be granted in August and you should be able to shift out to Oz in Sep...
  14. Bit inconsistent with the different COs. When I ask a question I get back a copy and paste answer from the PDF. Keen for an update from other Sep/Oct applicants.
  15. My Aussie mrs had the same 'problem'. They're still payslips, as long as you photocopy them and have them certified they're valid and can be used for the application. We did this and have not heard back. And same boat as you, didn't realise turnaround time has increased... it's already been two months since I sent mine in, feels like yesterday.
  16. That's right - the immi people are trained and can smell a dodgy deal and unless any of you carries out Jihad on behalf of the Taliban, hangs out with al-Qaeda or Mexican drug cartels then no news is good news. Just stay tuned and await that email.
  17. At least you know you're not firing blanks - could be worse - well done. Do the honourable thing and marry the girl and also for the sake of the baby. If you get run over by a bus tomorrow at least the mother of your child and the baby are looked after. Now and then you read horror stories of unmarried couples where the dad or mum and baby are left helpless because one of the parents dies. In fact if one of you end up in hospital the doctors can refuse you visitor's rights becuase you're not married.
  18. Neither has mine, when I ask I'm emailed back a copy and paste para from the PDF guide!!
  19. it's because it's so late in the year that budget and quotas are more or less non existent I also made the error of only submitting early September hoping for a visa grant for January. Looks like Mar/Apr for me...
  20. nice work Dave still sunny here too but getting a bit chilly in the mornings...
  21. Cool! I'll drop you a PM and we can keep each other updated on progress.... or lack thereof
