  1. Hi Guys, just thought I would post my timeline too....took test at Brisbane 28th April, passed 100%, just received letter today by post (1/08/2016) from Gold Coast City Council that my ceremony is 31st August
  2. Hi Guys, could I ask anyone who has taken Citizenship recently on the Gold Coast how long it took from application to ceremony. Does anyone know how often the ceremonies are held?....thanks in advance.

    RRV

Thanks Raul, I was pretty sure that would be the case but thanks for confirming it for me.

    RRV

Thanks Raul and snifter, yes, I know what you are saying but unfortunately its a little late now, flight is booked for April, and to be honest I could not practically support myself to stay here until citizenship later in the year, I have been trying to do citizenship but struggled to find some one to sign the form, and still would. I have to go for the next best thing really, which is a 5 yr RRV...would I be correct in thinking that if granted that would give me 5 yrs to be able to come back to live in OZ?, as I said earlier, its doubtful, but I guess anything could happen.

    RRV

Than you Pom Queen and snifter.........I have been here 11yrs, relationship with Hubby has broken down but our son is staying in OZ for now so I guess he would be my tie to OZ, so I think I will get the RRV before leaving to be on the safe side..thanks again.

    RRV

Hi Guys, I am going back to the UK in April, possibly for good....can I just ask if its better to get the RRV before leaving or get it in UK if I do decide to come back to OZ..its doubtful, but ya never know...thanks
  7. Thanks blossom, I read it to mean the person must have known me personally too, hence the reason I would struggle to find someone to sign...I know plenty of people, just not in the designated professions, sigh!...
  8. Thanks Suzukiscottie, yes I would be 'known' at the GP(on their books so to speak), so that may be the way to go...thanks again , will give that a try.
  9. Thanks Ali...the GP I attend would not know me from Adam...I have not been for about 7 yrs, rarely ill (guess thats a good thing tho), flit from one dentist to another for cost purposes, would feel a bit cheeky asking GP to be honest, the doctors change so frequently....no kids at school either...I just thought I'd ask if any one else had this problem before ringing the Citizenship helpline...we all know how these helplines can give 'incorrect info'....x
  10. Hi Guys, Hope you don't mind me asking for advice as I tend to be a lurker not a poster... but...I am and have been for a few years now wanting to do Au Citizenship, been here 11yrs, married to an Aussie all that time (and longer counting time in UK), I fall down on the Citizenship application because I know no one in the designated occupation list on the Citizenship website to sign my application form!!....has any one else had this problem and how did you get around it?
  11. Thanks for posting this speakeasy, It was a joy to watch, a very inspiring young lady...
  12. I didn't write it lol.....my hubby is Aussie and I can assure you he isn't thick!
  13. Why is that so shocking?...maybe, ..just maybe, they don't want to!....maybe they have no interest what so ever in foreign travel, just like millions of other nationalities. Foreign travel is great I suppose if that's your thing...it doesn't make you(not you personally) in any way intellectually superior to any one who doesn't travel, and judging by a lot of replies on here it certainly doesn't make you more tolerant or respectful of other nations or cultures.
  14. We did the last time we went which was'nt that long ago, but you are right that they are not part of Woolies now.We won't miss them too much i dont think lol.
  15. Woolies for food cos we get discount Big W for other stuff if they got what we need cos we get discount Dick Smith cos we get discount Office Works at Southport (good customer service) Michels for coffee (Helensvale) again nice staff and lovely savoury rolls too Specsavers for glasses Sams...yeh, not too bad....had a bargain or two from there, and looking much better than it used to a few years ago UMart a while ago but not anymore...found service lacking a bit to be honest Giant Chemist Masters for DIY
  16. I just didnt find it rude thats all...but the posts afterwards are very harsh also...whats the difference?..........but as you say...leave it at that eh?..
  17. They didnt ask for advice tho did they?...i didnt read it as a rude reply.
  18. I read the OP as asking if anyone fancied coffee, not advice(...did they ask for advice?), and certainly not the ticking offs that came after.

    Assurance of support

Hello....i would think it would be quite doubtful that you could get the cash back before the end of the ten years to be honest(but i stress i am no expert on this)......my husband was the assurer for my family member and it was a condition of said family member to be able to be granted PR status. The money had to be in a term deposit for two years. If my family member had returned to UK within that time frame they could still easily change their mind and return back to OZ, so i guess the assurance money would still need to be in the bank for the two year term. What visa status did you get?.As i said, i'm no expert, so hopefully someone who is will answer your question soon...x

    spousal visa

Yes, mine was given straight off...i expected to have to be temp first, but was told no need by case officer.

    spousal visa

Hi em, I got a permanent spouse visa straight away and was told by my case officer it was because of the length of time me and hubby had been married (over 10 years) and have a child....but i was in Aus at the time of grant.
