  1. The day has finally arrived waiting for take off for first leg of journey to dubai then on to perth. Luckily our total luggageallowance of 120kg was spot on. I was convinced we would have extra baggage charges with our 6 cases, 4 pieces of hand luggage and set of golf clubs! Feeling a bit overwhelmed now after all the planning, talking and goodbyes. To be honest these last 2 weeks have been manic that we're looking forward to relaxing on the flight. Will let you know how we find perth. Now where's that first drink....x
  2. We will be there this time next week so good to hear an update and tips
  3. we got one through holidaylettings.co.uk or you could try lets-perth.com, aussiemove.com or stayz. good luck.
  4. We want to bring our tent and just wondered how clean is clean? Is it just a visible inspection for dirt/soil etc? Backpackers must manage ok?
  5. I just put my relevant nursing qualifications on cv, not gcse's etc aswell as courses/study days and got all certificates certified.
  6. we got quotes from pickfords and crown both £4000 we went will pickfords in the end as a few people on poms in Oz complained about crown
  7. great post, loved looking at the pics!
  8. I live in the north east and the only places I could go were manchester or edinburgh. We went to manchester spire, cost £960 for 2 adults but both needed bloods and chest xrays. They were all very nice. Think the cost depends upon what tests you need.
  9. my husband applied before christmas, got an acknowledgement but heard nothing since! From reading other posts some people can hear quite quickly but for others it takes months (bit like ahpra!). They are on a massive recruitment drive over the next couple of years so could just be due to the amount of applicants. He could try contacting them again to see if he has any luck.
  10. Great update, nice to hear about facts, places to go and how to do things for those of us arriving soon. Look forward to hearing more.
  11. It's amazing how much the last weeks fly. I've still got 6 weeks to go and still so much to do. Not looking forward to the leaving do's. Good luck.
  12. Oh no what a nightmare, though unfortunately probably sets the tone for your first few weeks in oz - paying out (lots) of money! Safe journey, look forward to hearing your arrival report (hopefully without any further nasty surprises).
  13. Wow, think you can be excused to go fishing and get out of mowing the lawn  looking after all those kids would have been much harder work than what many others have to do :notworthy:
  14. Holidaying and kids don't always go together! Bet your OH will want to swop places with you before long ha.
  15. My point exactly lol. Maybe I could have a drink with Deb while my OH cleans your pool
  16. Please forgive me, I am the main applicant for the 457 visa. I didn't feel the need to explain the details of my visa as its a light hearted look at changes of circumstances in oz.
  17. is that a good thing or a bad thing lol
  18. I currently work part time in the UK, but as the main sponsor for our visa I will be working full time in oz. My husband will have to look for work when we arrive but this will probably be part time due to childcare. Now don't get me wrong, he is quite domesticated and will do certain household chores, like washing the dishes whilst 'singing' to bryan adams on his ipod :goofy:or hoovering freddie mercury style . In fact he always makes the bait for our lunches . My worry is while I'm slogging my guts out working more hours, he'll be making the most of his free time and new lifestyle by playing golf etc. (Jealous ) How have others found they've adjusted to their new roles?

    Flights booked

Know exactly how you feel. Even when booking flights was thinking omg is this the right thing? Really strange feeling to be excited and terrified at the same time. At least it seems the normal reaction for most people making the move.
  20. We haven't arrived in australia yet (flying to perth in July) but reading these posts is preparing me to keep an open mind. We have never even visited australia, let alone lived there so have no idea how we will find it and whether we will want to make it our forever home. Our plan is to make the most of the opportunity we have been given and experience as much as we can. If it is not forever we will return home and be thankful for the experience. We are renting our house out and taking career breaks as security. However after the time, money and emotions we have invested in this move we really do hope to like it and build a life there. Now I am not naive to think that it will all be as simple as this. In fact it may be a harder decision to return. We have 2 children and will have to take into account the effect on their education and happiness. I worry if one of us wants to go home and the other doesn't, or my son decides he wants to go back when he turns 18 next year. What if he meets someone and wants to stay, while we want to return? Posts on POI have demonstrated how heartbreaking these dilemas can be. On the other hand we can't live our lives on 'what ifs'. Life is short so we have to make the most of it and just do what's best for us at the time.
  21. great post. we are flying with emirates to perth in 8 weeks so look forward to hearing more about your adventures. safe journey.
  22. $70k for school leavers? Nurses mustn't be as well paid in oz as I thought as that will be my salary with over 10 years experience in the uk.
  23. Hi, mine was just a short paragraph stating that I am a sister employed with the trust, from dates..., hours, salary etc as you have stated above. They didn't go into details about my role, just stated my job title. The HR manager signed it and emailed it to me which I printed off and sent to ahpra. Had no problems from ahpra (about that anyway ). Hope this helps.
  24. we've booked pickfords, competative price and they have an office in perth.
  25. congratulations sounds like its in the bag, just wait for your next email
