  1. Hi, we have been back in the UK a year after being in Perth for two years, our daughter had various dental treatments whilst there.....cost us a fortune...and was quoted $13,000 for braces....we had private medical but ours only paid the first $2,000, I would defiantly check and budget for it as nothing is free!
  2. We went to Perth in January 2012....didnt sell our house......rented it out...we returned to the UK in January 2014 (our choice)...moved back into our house.....so glad we didn't sell it!.....
  3. My husband secured 3 jobs whilst we were still in Perth! The interview process was done via telephone call and then Skype! We left perth and within two weeks of being back in the uk he started his new job...we haven't looked back! Good Luck!
  4. I agree it works for some people, but just feel so sorry for people that get messed about by their employer, it causes grief and heartache and so unsettling if you have family...it is a temporary visa and nothing is guaranteed...and employers know that.
  5. The 457 is an awful visa and quite honestly be stopped! We went to oz on a 457 now back in the UK after two years, better job opportunities for my hubby, so glad to be back!
  6. Hi, honest option....if you have a good life in the uk...and are settled...then stay put!...unless you have an itch to scratch!.....I truly believe no one can give an option as all our situations are different. What works for some people doesn't work for others....
  7. The same thing happened to us two weeks ago...soooooo angry :twitcy: my daughter wanted to send her friend in the uk a perth tshirt for her birthday....we bought it for $19.99....I paid $17 postage......nearly chocked! And nearly didnt post it as thought it was an horrendous price.....anyway the tshirt arrived....however I get a message from my friend to say she has to pay £12 custom charges or the post office won't release the tshirt....I too filled in a customs form and the post office here said you can send goods up to £36....but appears not!....I am upset too as really want to send my mum a scarf as a present but not prepared to risk it.......so now I'm not posting at all to the uk...instead order from m&s to be delivered straight to the uk addresses....and moonpig do a variety of gifts now which you can add to a card order.....rant over! LOL
  8. Life sure is a journey....yes we have considered the uk too as we still have our house there....we didnt leave the uk because we were desperate to leave, my hubby had a good job & we had a comfortable life...we just felt we wanted a new experience...we have always enjoyed holidays. We have two girls age 9 and 6. We lived in a village near Bath, south west. We are excited about looking around Melbournr, I've looked at schools and now looking at areas....are you living near the city now?
  9. We are going over at the beginning of June for a reccie, we are looking at Doncaster..which is an area we above been recommended...however we will use the time looking at all areas...and schools. If we make the move we would go across end of September. I'm worried that I will be leaving a great bunch of friends that I have met, but I'm an easy going person and sure I will be fine....if its going to be better for us as a family then that's the decision we need to make...which part of the uk have you come from?...we were also seriously considering returning to the uk too....but feel we need to give Melbourne a go! I'm ready for the challenge...:twitcy:
  10. We have been here since Jan 2012 so 15 months...we are seriously considering the move across east, my hubbys employer has their head office there and he needs to be closer really as since we have been here he has been to Melbourne 18 times! Not including all the other trips east....we live in secret harbour but quite honestly would prefer more going on and things to do...we have exhausted beaches and parks!...without sounding ungrateful!...also we aren't happy with the education, our 9 year old has gone seriously backwards and what topped it for us is unless we move to the city and pay $$$$ we can't get either daughters into private school near us....feeling very torn and don't want to start slagging places off...can I ask what your reasons are for moving east as 4 months is a short time?:arghh:
  11. Hi, I got a rough price this morning from crown for a 20ft container and roughly $5k plus $2k insurance for good up to 50k....to transport our Rav 4 was approx $900 plus insurance....I think we will sell my car and drive hubby's car over with the dog and make it an adventure! Do u mind asking how long you have been in Perth?
  12. Hi, sorry to read your post....we are in secret harbour....we too are here on 457 visas but we were lucky to transfer with hubby's job...we have been here since January....and yes it's been a roller coaster.....we have two girls 8 and 6....If you want to chat then I will lend an ear...or have a good cry...
  13. Hi, I was really sorry to read your post....are you SOR or NOR? We too have been in Perth 8 months SOR, the past month I have had wobbles...mainly education...we moved our girls from a fantastic village school...they are 8 and 6. Where in the uk are you from? Are you craving family and friends?...if you are SOR would be happy to meet up for a rant!
  14. Hi Em, We were going to move to Lymington to be near friends...or Perth.....we are now in Perth...been here 4 weeks now. We lived in a village in wiltshire that was picture perfect...our daughters were in year 1 and 3 at the village school...we had (and still have) fab friends and life was good....BUT...we wanted something else before we looked back and said "what if", I am 34 and my OH is 35. My OH has travelled the world with his job and worked in America before, we have been given the opportunity to be here on 457 visas for 4 years...we have kept our house in the UK and friends are renting it from us. It is a long way and the week we left my grandpa who is 90 was taken into hospital again as he has cancer, a very close friend had a miscarriage and my best friends mum died...so all in all I left feeling pretty rubbish!...BUT we are here and going to embrace the change and enjoy what the country has to offer...it is expensive and I think people need to realise that...salaries are higher...but so is the cost of living. I think if you have the opportunity then try it...its better to look back and have tried...then to look back and regret! Good Luck on your decision xx
