Not sure not been to too many places. There is quite a cool bar down at the beach depending on if it was an afternoon or evening thing or the prince of Wales or espy? You probably know more places than me if you have any suggestions . How does that date seem ?

Hi guys thanks for all the responses great to hear back from so many people. We are thinking of staying around the st kilda area for the first 6 months or somewhere close to there anyone recommend any areas for us where there is still some bars and shopping maybe less of family area for now? Hard to know until we get there but sounds like lots going on around st kilda. Will def be in touch when we arrive .

What a lovely post. Been on here the last few days reading about different things and have had lots of posts which have said how difficult it is to get an apartment without references in oz, getting work ( husband just did downundfer tradies course for plumbing and reading lots of negative stuff after paying £3000!) and lots of negative stuff really so it is so nice to hear a positive story. We leave in Feb and are a young couple who love to socialise and see good d.js too so nice to know we can still do all of that! Thanks for such a positive update xxx

Hello I have only looked into it in the last couple of days but it seems the nanny can go into a post office and pay to have the check done so it would be their responsibility to have it done. I think you get issued a card so I guess you would just ask to see it? As I said I dont know too much will know more I guess when I get to Melbourne! I think the police check is a seperate thing that can be done but unsure how that is done. Just ask for them both as most jobs I have been looking at ask for both so people should have them. We are from London. Yes finding it all very useful on here, just found a good shipping company cheapest one I have found from on a forum on here. Not sure where heading for yet as so hard to tell from looking on websites! Need to spend some time going around areas. Also need to get a working with children check done which you cannot do until you get there so that delays getting work I think. Anyway it will work out I am sure! Good luck with the move

You can do it from the uk and it costs $100, but worth doing from here as I think it may take a few weeks. Hope this helps, where are you coming from?
