  1. Hello, We have seen a house we want to purchase on a buy to let basis until we return. Barclays International have said they will do the mortgage for us but we need to have £25k held in their bank account indefinitely! I'd really appreciate any help or advice or broker details! Thanks
  2. Hello everyone, Thanks for all your posts. For some reason I haven't been getting the email alerts, so I had no clue people had responded! So far I've placed an ad on findababysitter and I must have had well over 40 responses. I've written back to everyone and asked for their CVs and we'll go from there in terms of shortlisting. I did look into using an agency but the fees are so high. I thought that I'd try myself in the first instance and then perhaps use one if I struggled. So, in terms of a criminal record check- how would I go about asking for this? Is there an equivalent to the CRB check that we have here in the UK?
  3. Hi there, We move to Melbourne at the start of February and I need to find a nanny for our 8 month old as we both have full-time jobs organised. I've posted an advert on findababysitter.co.au last night and this morning I already have 8 or so applications. We've never had a nanny before so I don't really know where to start. Has anyone been through anything similar that can advise me on the sort of things I should be looking for and asking them etc? Thanks so much.
  4. Thanks everyone for your quick replies. I realised that I probably should have posted in another forum instead of migration issues, because my questions weren't just about that. So thanks for taking the time to reply. Another thought that I had about the 457 visa is that I currently do some freelance work in the UK and I'd like to continue to have the option to do this if I move over to Oz. Will I be able to do self employment if I'm named on my partner's visa? I'd obviously have to get this ok'd with the company I'm working for (it wouldn't be in their time or be a conflict of interest though) PS. We are not married.
  5. Hi there, I've been reading the forum over the past few weeks and now we're in a position where we need some specific advice on our situation... We are a couple with a 6 month old baby, currently living in the UK. My partner has been offered a transfer with his company and I have been lucky enough to secure a new role in my own field. If it is useful, our package details are as follows: Him- $107k, car, relocation costs covered, 1 set of return flights home per year, 10% bonus. Me- $150k, bonus between 10-30%. I'm not sure if my superannuation is included within the $150k or in addition (the offer letter makes it sound like it's part of the $150k- I will clarify this with them). Q. In terms of visas, is there any benefit to me having my own 457 visa, sponsored by my employer, or am I as well to be named on his? I'm hoping to have another baby in a couple of years time- I'm not sure if this makes any difference to the answer? Q. We're a bit panicked about cost of living in Melbourne, particularly childcare. It's been mentioned to us that we might be able to claim tax back on our childcare costs. Can anyone shed any light on this? Q. In my interview, the employer asked whether our relocation was being provided for by my partner's employer, which it is. As a result they have not offered anything towards that. Do you think it is worth asking for anything in place of this? Or is that super cheeky? Q. Is there a good website that I can input our incomes and deduct superannuation, medicare etc. to work out what we'll be left with each month? Thanks so much.
