Strange that as they advise waiting 10 days before applying for an Aussie Passport.

But if you had to travel between ceremony and receiving an Australian Passport how would you return to Australia as, based on your advice, the RRV would have been cancelled.

Is the cancellation done at the time of grant or after the ceremony? And how does that work if you keep your British passport? How would you gain re-entry? Does HA link your citizenship to your British Passport?

Hi, Just after some clarification with regards to the RRV. Where someone has a current RRV, becomes a citizen and then gets an Australian Passport does Home Affairs cancel the RRV? Also, what happens with the RRV for the period between citizenship ceremony and the grant of an Australian passport? Is the RRV still in force? Cheers, Mis

That is a million dollar question. My feeling is that it will depend on who gets in at the next election. If it’s the current government then I’d anticipate that it would go. However, they’d have to get it passed through the senate, I believe and that’s where it may have problems. So, in answer to your question no one can really say[emoji45]

No it’s not a visitor visa. You get a visitor visa when you come to visit Australia. If you then apply for a 804 visa when in Australia you will be granted a bridging visa when your visitor visa ends. That is my understanding.

Hi Alan - how do you if they are going to apply a condition 8503 on a tourist visa? Can you ask at the time of booking a flight?

Hi - that message is usually in relation to the processing times and not the availability of the visa.

Pretty much as Ozzie has said. Although my kids and I went to Edinburgh for the chat. 3 hour journey for 20 minute chat? The kids citizenship should come through pretty quickly. I think ours took 14 days. Good luck with it all[emoji16]

Hi - I have found the information posted on the DHA site stating 75% take 12 months to process and 90% take 15 months, but, I am unable to find out what month they are up to e.g. October 2017. Can anyone point me in the direction where I can find this info? Cheers, Mis

Hi - we are in a similar position and considering the options. She may not like it and return to the UK but we are still looking at options. My understanding for the 804 you would go on a Bridging Visa when the application is made. What I would like to know is do you go on one if you apply for the 864? The reason for asking is that if you don’t go on a bridging visa you would have to apply for the 884, which would increase the cost of getting the 864 by approx $5k. If they decided to get rid of the 804 and you had already applied I am sure there would be other options to consider, such as the 864 or maybe a new one? Would be interested to see which way to go and maybe we could compare notes via PM. Cheers - Mis

Just because she is selling a house doesn’t mean she isn’t a tourist. If it transpires that she would rather stay then there is the option of applying for the 804. Or she could return and move in with family. Don’t assume you know all the facts.

Hi Alan - we seem to speak a lot on this subject...lol The MiL has her house up for sale now so she is moving in the right direction. I hear what you are saying and whenever I search 804 it only returns the decision from 2014 in the Senate. There is no indication that they changing or stopping the 804. Normally they put a “leak” out that would indicate what is happening. We may have to see about bringing her over before the sale and take it from there. All fun and games. Craig

Normally, they will honour the visa that you applied on but as it’s government anything could happen. Has anyone got any ideas when the decision is likely?

Hi All, Just looking for advice about the Subclass 804 visa for my MiL. She is looking to come here on holiday next year and will more than likely apply for the 804 whilst in Oz. It would be good to speak to anyone who has been or going through the process for this visa. Cheers Mis

Hi All, My mother in law is looking to come out to live with us and we think for her situation the Subclass 804 would suite. I am wondering if anyone could answer/confirm the following: 1 - Did those who have applied for a 804 get a return ticket when they flew to Australia? 2 - Experience on how stringent the medicals are? 3 - My understanding is that she is still waiting for the hospital she attends in the UK to make up their mind if they going to insert a pacemaker. Would you advise she have that done before she comes out? 4 - I also understand that the first medical is 12 months after the 804 is lodged is that about right on people's experience? 5 - What is the time to grant? I have read anything from 5 to 8 years but what is the experience of those who have been granted recently? I know it does vary on spaces that are made available each year by the government. 6 - Probably one of the most important questions and that is what are the experiences like for those that have applied for the 804 - good and bad. Well it's a year today since we arrived in Canberra from the UK. All in all things have gone pretty well. Apart from my dad deciding it was time to join my mum and me having a slight health issue it's been great. We both have jobs and the kids have settled into school and college. They are both playing rugby and have made some good friends. As for Canberra we love it plenty of things to do and places to see. The traffic is great and the roads are pretty good on the whole. The only thing that let's it down is the house prices and the amount of land you get with a house! Also, I reckon they are on the way to spoiling it somewhat with all the construction going on......doesn't make sense as the government are making plenty of redundancies!! Whose going to buy all the homes? Anyway, let's see what another 12 months delivers. Mis
