    Bargain!

yep- why is that?? haven't been able to afford Domino's since we came home....it's a total rip-off here... my best bargain today....confirmation of 10 days in Thailand...free!!!!!! (well free to me courtesy of my lovely girl in Oz....woweeeee)
  2. you have to have a nominated occupation for this visa...as NN says...read DIAC Booklet 9 for guidance
  3. that could well be the answer to my dreams......
  4. I know :laugh: but why should only the "aged" be eligible......
  5. Hey Joe- I understand that you have decided on the WHV route........which is great except that you are obviously hoping for something more permanent...... so make a start on reading at www.immi.gov.au plus google the Visa Bureau- there is a lot- a lot- of info on there regarding different visa types & what you might be eligible for you have a degree..so I'm wondering if you might also have post grad experience which could qualify you for a Permanent visa straight off- that's why I recommend the above sites....& if not it'll help you to read around the requirements anyway to prepare you.....also look at jobs on www.seek.com.au - there will be other specialised construction-related sites/employers/employment agencies you can talk to.... have a good look around & good luck
  6. if we apply onshore for the 103- is there an appropriate bridging visa?? or is that a ridiculous expectation?? (am I in cloud cuckoo land??:cute:)
  7. "this visa allows you to supplement the cost of your holiday through short-term employment"... this quote is from the DIAC WHV website.... ....maybe you are putting yourself under undue pressure here to find a job & settle permanently ; that is not what this visa is for... why not just accept that you are going on a holiday & anything else is a bonus..then you might look forward to it instead of stressing! Otherwise by all means carry on with the jobsearch but that might mean looking for a more suitable visa such as the 457 or research whether you could actually apply for a permanent GSM visa??? have you checked the SOL yet??
  8. the difference here though Richard is that you did supply the necessary...it was legal & merely needed updating at a future time.... the OP missed something pretty crucial which is clearly indicated in Booklet 6.....I'm not being unsympathetic btw but it just shows how crucial it is to do the checklist before lodgement..
  9. yes generally that's the time-frame that's bandied about- but I'm sure I read somewhere it had come down to maybe 10?- if it was (only) that long I'd consider it & rethink the plan-maybe 6months here / 6 there .... so hard to decide...
  10. sometimes I think - if it means using up so much of my capital that I'll have to rent, maybe I'll just do the PV instead.....anyone know what the current waiting time is for that one?? not sure what I'd do after that but I really fancy studying for something Aussie-valued & I could maybe limp along like that for a few years while I search for my new (hopefully Aussie) husband...:ssign6: kill two birds with one stone as it were & enhance all areas of my life in the process.......
  11. yep unfortunately I can't find another way around it!! trying to be positive tho!!
  12. julie- you're trying very hard to help your son out ( from all your previous postings) but he does need to take things into his own hands I think now & take the advice that people here have suggested- given that he's already used the WHV.. he needs to retrain if he's ever to get there permanently..what is he actually working as at the moment ?
  13. & I think mines's going to cost around $40000 :laugh::laugh: how cheap did you think it would be?? sorry but people seem to think this is such a cheap & easy process this migration malarkey !!!
  14. the other thing is.... you are going out on what is a temporary visa yourselves..... at this time you have no way of knowing if that will translate into anything permanent...& if this particular job does not work out for you ,you will have 28 days to find another one or come home.. this is a huge responsibility with a family in tow, so I think you'll have quite enough to contend with without trying to sort out a friend's prospects too!! she is an individual person who needs to meet the criteria for a visa all on her own ..it just doesn't work like that...(or most of us wouldn't be waiting to meet all the necessary criteria.,we'd all be out there already!)

    Hi guys..

oh yes I do see all that too....... but it has also been said that the Aussie govt don't want to be seen as keeping families apart unnecessarily....that's also part of the consideration when applying visa policy....its just that the wheels grind slowly for the individuals who are waiting (obvious I know)....like for instance- my daughter is totally on her own for 2 years while I try to meet the necessary conditions.... & her sibs who aren't going over there have the rest of the family around them.....she's the one who needs us most & so the long haul feels unfair- logically I know it isn't- emotionally its pretty heartbreaking though.... &...there are probably loads of us in this position :sad:its really difficult

    Hi guys..

I wish you well, but I doubt the rules will change. Few countries want to import somebody else's near-pensioners but some of those near-pensioners have a fair amount of $$$$$$$ that will find its way into the Aus economy.....plus children who will spend the rest of their lives (possibly) doing the same.. they're a deserving sector for visas imho

    Hi guys..

Hi Gra- it sounds to me like you've pretty well got it covered actually- you don't satisfy the BoF unless you can persuade one of the other children to go..... frustrating eh? I'm similarly waiting to meet the BoF requirements so I can join my daughter too :cute: so good luck however you decide to do it....
  18. also if you & your parents download & read Booklet 3 you'll get a good idea of the "settled" requirements... although it's not a cut & dried issue.. . the thing with agents btw is not so much that they're guarding their success rates as that they don't want to forward applications that they know stand a good chance of failure if the "settled" requirements aren't likely to be met.....you wouldn't want to pay an agent to take that chance really would you?
  19. thing is... he need s to be able to get a visa of his own & this will be based on his own skills & working experience.... he gave up working at the age of 38? maybe he could get back into civils for a few years & then apply? that might be the fresh start he needs.. with the goal at the end of it being migration? he can't apply for a parent vise since you've already done it yourself!! unfortunately there is no magical solution for any of us until we actually qualify for a visa in our own right & there is a cost to that ..& obviously part of that is also the emotional cost of a child moving away from a parent.. sad but you do at least know that is going to happen & presumably will prepare him for it ? skype will be brilliant for him to keep in touch with dad :fish2:
  20. well in the paper I'm assured your daytime temp got to at least 22 yesterday-which would be very nice. (mind you it was the Daily Mail & apparently I'm a brainless twerp if I read that particular publication, let elone believe a word they say ) . we're struggling to get to 11 at the moment.. which is fine for early spring, it's just that we had a hint of summer last week & it all got snatched away from us in a flash!!
  21. wonder what you mean by chilly there- it dropped very low again here last night-close to freezing again..so by the time the day warms up it's almost time for it to cool down again! the forecast for the next week is sun & showers- which means the North coast of Cornwall/Devon will be cold, wet & windy....still it's a change of scenery right??
  22. have you done a search of the visas yet parrot?? http://www.immi.gov.au - retirement visas are mega-expensive tho- have you visited because you have family over there? there are parent visas you can look at too if your circumstances apply...this is the route I'm hoping to take for instance ..:cute:
  23. hope you enjoyed the day Dave!! you might be pleased to know that the English Easter break is very wet & a bit windy - altogether dull & miserable....so we are pretty housebound & it's not pleasant!!! wish I was back at Maroubra  do you do any cycling ?? I've promised myself I will if I get there permanently....it's got to be safer than where I live now! off to the South coast next week hoping for a little drop of sunshine !!
  24. not sure what you mean by a Foundation " Degree? " or why it would take 2 years? (are you talking p/t?).... the general route for teaching ( in England?) is a 4year B.Ed or a 3 year B.A plus one year PGCE (afaik) ..studying in Australia is very expensive ,have you checked out the costs yet?? Also-what visa do you think you would be applying for after the foundation study?? to get PR you will need all those quals plus a skill that's in demand on the SOL at the time to even consider applying... if you haven't done it yet begin your search at http://www.immi.gov au ...... the low demand for British teachers is another issue which is discussed in forums quite regularly...apparently there are many Aussie teachers looking for jobs atm....lots for you to think about, but do some searches on the forums to get first-hand opinions too.
  25. meanwhile....Easter eggs..:animal-chicken:
