1. Hi everyone....can’t believe it has been 7 years!!!! we also made the move my husband, son and I have been living on the Gold Coast since March 2013. We also welcomed another boy in 2014 Loving life and feel very lucky to live in a beautiful part of the world....good to hear that you guys are doing well
2. Hi, We're the same...we (me, my hubby and 6 year old son) fly on the 28th Feb.... We don't have jobs to go to but I have applied for 6 and have an interview on Wednesday night.....I'm an occupational therapist and my hubby works in construction. We are heading to the Sunshine Coast for at least the first 4 weeks....staying in holiday accommodation in Maroochydore....We are panicking a bit as well... Worried that we don't find jobs and we end up using our savings....fingers crossed it all works out........Good luck with you plans but I think you should just go for it.... You don't always get an opportunity like this and life's to short to be wondering "what if"........ Leah, Rab and Declan Leaving Scotland in 17 days
3. Hi, We're due to fly on the 28/02/13 :smile:and we're now looking at ST rentals for 4 weeks until we can hopefully secure a LT rental. We would like to be close to Brisbane as we a have a few things to sort out once we arrive. We would love to work/settle close to the Sunshine Coast but need to be closer to Brisbane initially. Can anyone recommend where to go, how to secure a ST rental.........don't really want to pay anymore than $600 per week? Thanks Leah x
4. Thanks for all your positive posts. I’m sure it will work out fine as it's taken long enough to plan. Starting to feel excited as it will be here before we know it. Good luck to everyone else making the move in 2013 and hope everyone has a great New Year  Leah, Rab and Declan
5. Hi Tuosist, Thanks for your reply. I sent my application to Queensland as that's where I hope to work. I have since been told that you can submit you application to any state. The Adelaide office seems to process applications quickly. I think Queensland take the longest. I submitted an online enquiry re: status of my application. Hopefully I will hear back from them after the holiday period. If not I'll phone them. I'm not so fussed about going with a job as we are planning to have the first month off but I would like to know I've sorted my registration and I can apply for jobs. We've not booked the holiday village yet and plan to wait until nearer the time and sort a short-term rental. Hope you get you registration sorted soon. Leah
6. Thanks for your reply.....makes us feel a bit better.....hopefully it all falls in to place for us..good luck and hope you have a great time and it all works out for you too. Thanks and keep us posted, Leah
7. I've not been on this forum for ages and thought it was time for a wee update.......We secured our PR visa in April and need to validate it by the 26th April 2013....We sold our flat and moved into rented accommodation in November....Flights were booked for 08/01/13 and I was due to finish my work tomorrow  Well.....things have now been slightly delayed due to panic :twitcy:I am an Occupational Therapist and was advised to apply for my registration towards the end of the year as it would take roughly 4-6 weeks.....I started my application in October and quickly realised it was going to be a nightmare.... after a couple of weeks I managed to organise everything and sent it at the end of October...At this point I thought that was plenty of time as we still had around 10weeks. I received an email on the 22/11/12 stating they had received my application....I have heard nothing else  Flights have now been rescheduled for 28/02/13 and we land on 02/03/13....I feel relieved but time is ticking by and I still don't have my registration.....I've been looking at jobs but a lot of them say you can only apply if you are registered with AHPRA and I was recently told I won't get my limited registration until I get a job offer........... I now have an agent looking at jobs for me and hope to be a bit more organised before we leave...... We are flying with Singapore airlines from Glasgow - Brisbane and plan to book temp accommodation for 1 month.....not sure where we'll settle.....have a few ideas but really depends on work.....thinking about staying at the Brisbane holiday village for the first month as it's quite central and will give us some time to look around for rentals.....ideally we would like to live closer to the sunshine coast....... Feeling a bit worried about the possibility of moving without a job/registration, especially when we have a wee boy (Declan is 6)....Husband works as a construction labourer.......we have been saving for a bit but we're also aware its more expensive, the exchange rate is poor and ideally we would like to have this money as a safety net.... In an ideal world my registration will come through, I will secure a job and I can then start to narrow down suburbs and look at schools for Declan...... WOULD YOU GO IF YOU WERE IN OUR SHOES?????? Thanks and Merry Christmas Leah, Robert and Declan........
8. Anyone recently travelled from Scotland - Brisbane on a permanent (175) visa? I booked flights with SA from Glasgow - Brisbane and was happy:smile: when I found out about the extra baggage allowance. NIGHTMARE now though:arghh:....... BA are flying us from Glasgow to London and won't honour the extra allowance.... I stupidly assumed, that if I book with SA from Glasgow - Brisbane, the allowance would be offerred from the initial flight to our destination. Anyone had any experinece of this? I have called SA to see if I can cancel the BA flight to London, they have yet to confirm. Looks like we may need to hire a car and drive to London:sad: as we really want the extra baggage allowance. Any information would be great, Thanks Leah
9. Hi, we are hoping to go in January and found decent flights via skyscanner with Singapore Airlines. Do you know if booking through skyscanner you still get your extra baggage allowance?? Or do you need to book directly with the airline? Thanks Leah
10. I'm not sure about the 457 visa (we have a 175) but if you do need medicals the x-ray will be part of that.....we are UK based and although I will be working in healthcare my husband won't. We both had to get them done. Hope this helps Leah
11. Thank you  didn't think we would see that for a while......We have been smiling all day .......
12.

Hi Angela, nice to see another OT on this....don't know that there's many of us :biggrin:better for us though when it comes to jobs. We got our visa granted today  but not planning on going until Jan 2013 - in time for our wee boy starting the school term. We're looking at Brisbane (north lakes/mango hill are) although we don't have a clue. Also looking at Geelong in Victoria? Really depends on jobs. Have you started to apply for jobs? What area do you work in? Nice to keep in touch.....always nice to speak with another OT going through the same process. Good luck with your adventure x

13. Please turn me PURPLE  We got our 175 visa granted this morning WOOHOO
14. Hi All, We are in the final stages of our visa application - moved very quickly  We lodged our 175 on the 19th October thinking it could take upto 18 months. Got a case worker 10/04/12, police checks sent, medicals 27/04/12 and house going on the market 28/04/12:shocked: Hopefully everything goes through OK and we plan to move out to Oz Dec/Jan? Just wondering about work opportunities for my hubby...I am an Occupational Therapist so hoping a should be ok?? However, my husband works as a construction labourer and he is a thaiboxing instructor/official. We were thinking about Queensland but recently a friend of ours returned home as he couldn't find work - said he was willing to do anything but nothing on offer?? Just a bit worried about work for him and now wondering if we are choosing the right state - would Perth be better for work opportunities???? Any information would be great..... Thank Leah
