  1. Can't believe how some people behave. They don't seem to realise what stress and anxiety they cause us! Getting the Visa was hard enough on the nerves but house selling is the pits! Hope things improve for you soon (and everyone else waiting to sell before they go). We've had a real rollercoater ride too but crossing fingers that the promised exchange goes though as planned on 15th September.
  2. We only signed for the minimum 6 weeks for sole agency - got the offer in 4! Another well-known agent here regularly does 'open days' but they are a bit hit and miss on the houses near us who tried them. 1 had very few 'hits' the other had a stream of viewers and did get an offer but it fell through soon after and they are still waiting some 8 weeks later.
  3. Our problem has not been with the agents (or our solicitor) - they have been good, giving us weekly updates and using their own 'sales progresser' - but with people lower down the chain who have been very slow. (The chain has 'broken' twice - 3rd or bottom person) As our buyer was desperate to have our property (at a very good price) it made no sense for us to pull out and start again as we don't think we would have got anywhere near the price we've agreed on. We looked at other agents but the one we went with seemed to have lots of boards locally and fairly quick turn-over. We're not out of the woods yet but we hope to exchange on 15th September.
  4. So many of my forum friends who have travelled with me on this roller-coaster are now on their way or about to leave. We nearly lost our sale ..... again and another person has joined the chain which brok lower down a couple of weeks ago. After a strongly worded email from me demanding some answers, we now have an exchange date so we've getting a little closer to the end of this bumpy ride. Provided there are no more hitches we are due to exchange contracts on 15th September!!!! Completion day could be anything from 1 to 6 weeks after that so I'm hopeful that by the end of October our flights could be booked and our stuff packed into the container. Phew. Still on target to arrive before the summer hots up so fingers crossed.
  5. Sounds like you are hitting the ground running - what fun! Safe trip and have a wonderful new life in Melbourne. Hope we're not too far behind you.
  6. I think they just need to know that it is under control with meds or sensible diet and weight loss. If everything else is OK it shouldn't be a problem.
  7. Only thing left for us to do is exchange contracts and arrange completion date .......... did I say ONLY? This is the worst part of the whole process - so near yet can't book shippers or flight yet! Bet the rate comes down another 10 cents by the time we finally get there, knowing our luck!
  8. Nice to see the extra column - saves keep having to add up the days/months till CO/Visa granted etc.
  9. After the poor rate of recent weeks anything over 1.55 is a bonus as far as we're concerned as we worked out our budget on 1.50-1.51. Unfortunately our money is tied up in the house and until we can complete we can't send a cent over! Who knows what it will be in a few weeks time when we finally have it in our grubby little mitts!.
  10. Might be OK but our buyers had to put their house back on the market but found another buyer immediately. Now 4 in the chain but they are getting the survey done on our property this week and seem keen to move. May take a couple of weeks more than hoped but looking better than it did a week ago. Still in with a chance of completing by the end of September!
  11. You lucky people. Looks like our sale is about to fall through as we'll have to start all over again! Accepted an offer a month ago and had all the searchs done, papers drawn up and signed but the buyers haven't had a survey done yet! They say they're waiting for their buyers to do theirs first.
  12. So sorry things have not worked out for you as planned. I really feel for you, you must be so disappointed. Keep that dream alive - it may still happen. We are going with a lot less than we originally hoped for but even with a much reduced amount of dosh to play with, being near our family makes any struggle worthwhile. When we started to dream the £1 bought nearly $2.40 and we could have afforded a lovely house (maybe with pool) and still have plenty of savings to keep us but now we'll be lucky to afford a small courtyard home and may have to consider working part time if the value of our pensions plummet further. We still think its worth it though! I don't think we would be much better off staying in the UK with the way things are going.
  13. I can remember all those comments on here when I got so excited about paying over such a huge sum of money. Why shouldn't every step of this journey be greeted the same way? After all, it is another step nearer to joining our lovely family and having lots of new experiences to look forward to in our twilight years!
  14. Gosh, I remember that (and we're still clearing out stuff) Once I started I couldn't stop - not surprising as we've been here nearly 40 years!
  15. Great news - another sucess! Hope all goes well with the flat etc - just that bit of 'stress' to get over (should be used to it by now) and you're nearly there. Good luck with the last bit of the journey.
  16. Hope your granddaughter is making good progress - good job you were there to help and support them all.
  17. Not long now - talk about stress (there's a few of us going through the wringer at the moment but we're nearly there too) Good luck with the move and the flight. Bet you're counting down the days now.:cute:
  18. Have a safe journey and enjoy your new life Down Under. Keep in touch and let us know how you are settling in. Time passes a lot quicker than you think so hang in there all of you still waiting to live that dream - its just around the corner:wink:.
  19. Had a nice relaxing day to celebrate another step forward on the journey. I've been to a Craft Exhibition in Newbury while Clive is in London touring the Arsenal stadium and then off to a Ramsey Lewis concert (I'll be having a nice drink, with my feet up, watching TV on my own) Jane
  20. After a diabolical week (won't go into details) we had an offer on our house this morning. I was beginning to think it would take ages and that we'd need to drop the price once again but the young couple who viewed last night loved it and they have a first time buyer for their property. Still a way to go but looks like we are another step closer to our dream and the panic (sorry, fun) begins in earnest!
  21. The last part of the process is a bit of a nightmare if you factor in selling a property - so many ifs and buts. Hope it all works out smoothly for you. We are going through it to at the moment and know how stressful it can be. Hang in there - it won't be long till you are safely Down Under.
  22. How many years have you been waiting? I believe there are only 600 a year being granted now so you may be lucky and get it before Christmas but maybe by this time next year! Good luck http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/family/parent-visa-processing-priorities.htm
  23. We were originally told it would take 20 - 24 months .... we got ours in 13! They really are speeding up again Might have been even quicker if there hadn't been so many Bank holidays in April which delayed our medicals 15 - 18 seems to be the average now CPV 143 - Adelaide bound Acknowledged 3rd May, 2010 CO 1st April, 2011 police checks sent 21st April AoS Bond 28th April Medicals done 6th May 2nd VAC request 25th May Received 1st June VISA GRANTED 3rd June, 2011 trying to sell the house then we're off! why not have a look at Steve's marvellous tracker - you can watch your progress and meets many friends along the way and pick up loads of helpful info too http://www.chireckles.com/cpv/tracker.php
  24. Good luck - you should be there soon! Can't believe it happened in less than 400 days for us! - exactly 13 months from acknowledgement to Visa granted
