    Brisbane is full of building work at present - but stick with it on the Coast because all the chippies have left so there will be work here! Its just finding it.

    Somewhere like Maleny on the Sunshine Coast is the real Australia with a village feel. So lovely up on the range. Before you think of going back permanently to the UK go for a visit - its not a plce to raise your kids anymore.

    Hi Alve, We are in Buderim with kids of 14, 9, 8 and 4 so would love to meet you. We have been here 22 months now. It does take 2 years at least to get bedded in and I was amazed at how huge a life change it was but it is great here. PM us.

    I beleive you vcan also go onto a website, i.e, Queensland Health and register an expression of interest to work for them. Each State should have a similar thing.

    Do not cause problems for yourself and leave it all behind. They are strict here, unlike the UK, and they will get nasty very quickly over food at customs.

    A friend of mine started a business as a handyman / odd jobs on the Coast doing the small jobs no one else will do and he is run off his feet in a year. If you are reliable and trust worthy, turn up and work hard you can make it on the Coast.

    In the summer there is Nippers - Surf Life saving (simply fantastic), sailing, the beach, just about any sport you can imagine! Winter, and it does get very cold, again lots of team sports for the kids and plenty of parks etc. There is plenty of free stuff here too. Make sure you join Mooloolaba Surf Club for Nippers - its great.

    The chances are noone has looked at your application yet so send in these documents with a covering letter. There is a huge back log and a case officer may take months to be assigned. Make sure you keep copies of when everything was submitted and use registered post. I doubt you have anything to worry about as they realise its a beurocratic nightmare too!

    If you can do the MSc it would be a huge help for you work wise in Aus as that is where nursing etc is headed here!

    There seems to be a 90 day wait before they even look at it. Funny how they take the money immediately!

    Keep on top of them - but hopefully not long now. They do seem to have speeded up recently.
