    We took a $900 bill to our private health fund office. That was for a 7 minute ride to the local emergency department last year! So make sure you get ambulance cover if you live in Victoria.

    Hi Lauren The Uni caters for lots of international students and is on a campus away from the city. Try gumtree for student shares. I will try and get more information from an ex McQuarie post grad student for you,who used to help out during freshers weeks, regarding areas where students rent. Cath

    No, we applied for 457 as the fastest way to get into the country. As OH was over 45 he was mentored for 1 year, in his profession, before we could apply for 'Employer Nomination (Residence) (Class BW, Subclass 856) visa.' I believe you can change employers whilst on a 457 but I would check with an immigration agent.

Dandenong is not too far by car from the bayside and mornington peninsula region and at least they are fully furnished. also http://www.moving-to-melbourne.co.uk/ offers a service and may contact you on here too. Don't forget to bring your woolies, it gets pretty chilly in the evenings, and central heating, double glazing are rare!! cath

    <p>meds went fine. all but mine are returned and pr applied for. no job news. 2 weeks now since interview and refs not taken up. off to sydney for a hol on monday. planning trip to uk for sept hols so maybe i'll stop applying for jobs for a bit. need the rain to stop a bit just to clear up the garden!!!</p>

    <p>Apologies. I wan't ignoring you - just didn't get notified that you had pm'd me and didn't look at the site properly. I am having a boredom moment so was busy surfing. I see from my latest post that you have arrived and one of your children is going to Mornington sec. suffice to say I would have encouraged you to go ahead. James is having a very good time there in Y11 now. He has been through a few friendship groups but seems to have settled down now. joining the school production last year was a big boost to him, even though he can't act for toffee!</p>

    <p>Hope you are settling in well. I don't envy you the job of finding a rental. I am always up for a coffee if you don't work that is - unless of course you are overdosed on the stuff like me!</p>

    True, the figures speak for themselves, but i can only go on personal experience. My son is doing well there - he is not gifted, but happy - very important when you move a teenager from their familiar surroundings. Many families in the Mornington area have no intention of sending their kids to University. My son is aware of what he has to do if he wants to take that path. Anyway I digress. Peninsula would have been the school of choice now - they were oversubscribed at the time. Cath

    Not sure I agree with you regarding Mornington Secondary, especially comparing it to Mount Eliza Secondary.

    Hello there and welcome. I think you'll be very impressed with the Peninsula, it is quite beautiful, plenty of outdoor things to do, especially when it involves water. Loads of restaurants and cafes everywhere. We have lived in Mount Eliza for almost a year now, woodland side, as they say. We chose it for proximity to the train station in Frankston. Also the housing plots are huge and we like the feel of being in the bush. There are plenty of facilities in the Village but I feel it is dominated by an older generation with money. I really like Mornington, it has a great shopping and cafe culture centre. You'll have no need to go further afield really. it is a town of great expansion - lots of new builds (and Aldi is coming soon)! It can get a little busy in the summer months ( January in particular), but nothing like the scale of things in the UK. It still retains it's charm. There are no 'kiss me quick hats' for sale! Mount Martha is much smaller and quieter by comparison. only one small supermarket. Bus service is limited - you will need a car for sure. There are a lot of second holiday home owners here and retirees, although further away from the village there are new builds. we stayed for 12 weeks when we first arrived and it was lovely but a bit sleepy. Regarding housing it all depends which side of the Nepean Highway you live, more expensive bayside. There is a shortage of rental properties. The house prices are rising as a result. with the exchange rate as it is things may seem rather expensive. Take a good look at Real Estate, Property, Land and Homes for Sale, lease and rent - realestate.com.au No experience of early childhood education, my youngest is 16. Try this website: Department of Education and Early Childhood Development - Department of Education and Early Childhood Development If you can take a short term holiday let when you first arrive you will get the chance to explore fully.     <p>well we are quite close - just by junction 3 of M5</p>

    <p>we have never considered Brisbane. we are off to Melbourne by the end of January as Bob (Husband) has a job at Frankston Hospital ready for James (Year 10, nearly 15) to start at Mornington Secondary School.</p>

    <p> Sorry for my ignorance but are you off to Melbourne too? If so I can put you in touch with James if you like via facebook if you are on it.</p>
