  1. Hi. When I was still in the UK, I came to Sydney for Christmas to visit my mum.....I landed on Christmas Day as it was a few hundred pounds cheaper (I was a poor student at the time). The earlier you book your flights the cheaper it is on a long haul.....usually. :-)
  2. Thank you. It's such a relief. I've asked to cut my hours down in work already (wasn't able to do that on my old 457)...... And I'm applying to study a masters at uni (couldn't do that on a 457 either). I am so happy. You should hear any day too. Good luck :-)
  3. I did it myself and my visa was granted today. ? I think if I went through an agent it may of been quicker as I had a couple of documents requested......if I had an agent they would of sent everything with my application......but when you think about it, a couple of months is nothing. What's the rush? Good luck peeps ?
  4. My visa was granted today. So happy. :-) Yipeeeee. I'm currently on nightshifts......I just woke and checked my emails and there it was. Now I'm too excited to sleep ha. Stress over!!!! Good luck to everyone else! Xxx
  5. Hiya. I applied in Feb too. :-) I'm currently on a bridging visa as I already live and work in Sydney as an emergency Reg nurse. I've never been so stressed as I was on a 457 and left it until the very last moment. Hope it doesn't take too much longer for us. My time line is below. They asked for my PTE exam results to be sent direct from PTE which was done on the 19th April. That is the last communication from the visa peeps I have had. Good luck! Emma X
  6. I've done both. I didn't get the marks I needed in the Ielts and I couldn't wait to do another Ielts, so I ended up doing the PTE. Ielts takes all day and a few weeks to get your results. The PTE takes just a couple of hours to do and I got my result in 2 days. I prepared by doing the mock tests. I found reading out loud with the earphones and mic difficult to concentrate when I could hear everyone else. It can be a challenge to keep focus but I did it yay......and got good marks. I never want to do that again urrrgh. I felt like John Snow.....I know nothing. :-S
  7. Good luck peeps. I applied in February just in the nick of time before my current visa expired. My CO officer got intouch last week asking me to just send my PTE results via the PTE website. As that's all they asked for.......I'm hoping to get my visa very soon. Got my fingers and toes crossed. I'm currently in Australia on a bridging visa.....currently driving my friends and family nuts with the stress. Love this website. People's experience and advice.....has really helped me. Thank you :-) xx
  8. Wow that's so quick! I should get mine soon too then. Good luck with the move. :-) x
  9. Yay Ben P.......congratulations......I can't believe it! I swere I'm never going to be lastmin.com ever again. Feeling very lucky! :-) Thanks again Captain C.....I guess nobody can predict how these silly things work. :-)
  10. I must be so lucky!!!!! I got my invitation just after midnight!!!! EOI was only the 9th feb.....60 points.......registered nurse critical care and emergency. Good luck everyone. I never have to do one of those stupid English exams EVER again yipeeeee x
  11. Yes I'm claiming 10 points for it. I did PTE.......omg this is torture! I might do it again but it's giving me a nervous breakdown.....I'm rubbish at exams. :-S thank you for your advice :-)
  12. Thank you. I'm doomed. Better book my flights home then I guess. My 457 runs out in March :-( Not a good system for people who already live here with a job. :-(
  13. Thanks.......I hope it's quicker though......I'm already living in Australia with a job. Also according to skills select they need 13872 Reg nurses and they only have 1776 so far in the 2015-2016 programme. :-S good luck everyone.....:-)
  14. How long did you all wait for your invatations after your expression of interests? Any of you nurses? I am currently living in Sydney on a 457........it's running out next month......I'm always last min........omg I'm having a heart attack as I may have to leave my amazing job, lifestyle, home.....all because I'm an idiot Also did you get the invite emailed to you? Would love to hear more. Good luck everyone xxx
  15. You need to move near a city where there's lots of jobs. Sydney or Melbourne? I hated the move at 1st........my 1st job was aweful. I came from an amazing trauma nurse in London to a ward full of oldies getting hip and knee replacements......living in the Country! I moved to Sydney and got a new job as soon as I could. I now live in Bondi and love it. Hold on in there! You can do it! Good luck xx
  16. Hi CaptainC Any chance of a prediction? please..... EOI 9th feb 2016.... ANZO 254417 Registered Nurse (critical care and emergency). 60 points. thank you in advance. Emma :-)
  17. Thank so much for your help.......off to practice for my exam :-) Fingers and toes crossed x
  18. I have to do the English test again because I got 6 something in the listening test in Ielts.....there was a map and I buggered up. :-S I'm doing the PTE exam on Tuesday and will do it every week until I've got good marks. This will make my score at least 60.......hoping more depending on my English mark. Ive done the skills check and just waiting on police checks. Thank you so much......I'll be cutting it fine but fingers crossed! :-S
  19. Im a total idiot, I'll start off with that as it can only get better. I have been on a 457 for nearly 4 years, it finishes in March. I'm applying for a 189 skilled independent visa(I'm an emergency nurse). I have nearly everything ready........my question is do I have to do an expression of interest before I can even apply? If so how long does that take? (stressed to hell). Yes I'm an idiot. I can't get a bridging visa until I have my actual application in the post right? Note* my work are not doing nominations at the moment, so that's not an option. I feel so sad I'm going have to leave the job I love because I've left things too late. :-( Any help and advice would be great. xx:confused:
  20. I am a reg nurse (yes another one werrrhaaaahaaaa- evil laugh), currently working in Gosford Hospital. It is a great hospital but I have been here a year now and not settled. I'm a city girl and I've found this area far too quiet. Yes the Central Coast is beautiful, it has the best beaches and it is great for families, but I'm single and I haven't had a social life since I've lived here. Nobody goes out after work and everyone is in couples. So I knew pretty much straight away it wasn't for me.....anyhooo I have been offered my dream job in a top city hospital and they're transferring my visa. Yipeeeeeee! Starting my new job in January. Don't give up if you find it hard at 1st. Where there is a will, there is a way. :biglaugh: Emma x
  21. hey there. I'll be up for one of those social life things very soon. I've been living on Gosford on the coast for a year now.....tis nice but too quiet for a single girlie. I'm gonna be moving to Coogee in a month or so and starting a job in Darlinghurst in January......so anyhooo....I would love to meet for a drinkypoo! Hope you settle in well. Emma :-) xx
  22. update..... I hate my job. :-( It was meant to be a trauma/orthopaedic ward....it's not. It is full of old dears having hip and knee replacements. There's no team work, and you're buggered if you have a very sick patients. The good thing is that the patients are lovely but the bad thing is.....it is very repetitive and far too much paper work. I am transferring to ED as I think my skills are more suited there. My boss wasn't happy but she was very nice and supportive about it. I am sponsored by the state so it was pretty straight forward. Australia is great but I'm finding it hard not living in a cosmo city.....so I am also applying for a job in the city. Feeling quite homesick but I'm not missing the place, just the people. Good luck everyone xxx
  23. I'm in Gosford. It's lovely and my folks live here but I'm not into the suburbs......I love city life. I came over from London so I should of applied to something more suitable......but I wanted to give it a go. x
  24. yeah it's a culture shock alright. I have been here since Nov but only just started my job. Feel quite lonely and nobody on the ward talks to each other, it's odd. I do love Oz but I realized before I started my job I'm in the wrong area. I need to be in a city or I get bored. I'm on a 457 visa sponsored by NSW Health....the job I am applying for is still with NSW health. I can't wait a year.....I'll go bonkers! :-S Thanks for your advice x
  25. Hiya. I applied direct. My ward manager has a PA who helped me with the process and also HR helped me with the visa stuff. I made it here in one piece and I started my job last week. To be honest, I don't like my job......it's ok but I am wondering if I went through an agency I might of landed a more suitable job. Never mind though, I'm out here and can apply for a different job. I'm still loving Oz. Good luck and have a fab holiday xxx
