1. There was a documentary on not so long ago about the community in Bradford. There is clearly and us and them but there are people from both sides, both cultures, trying to change that and make things better. Whether that will happen remains to be seen. There are however no go areas in Bradford for white people. Hard to believe but one of my friends use to live there and there is a bit of friction between the asians and the locals. I'm still trying to get into Australia. Clean record, clean bill of health, hard worker, grafter, but it's not happening for me. It's bloody hard just to get that break. I sometimes get the feeling that it isn't the same as trying to get into the UK. The Daily Mail was mentioned by Perthbum. I used to buy that paper on holiday just to read all the vile and the hate. Some of it no doubt has an element of truth to it but I get the feeling that the stories are spruced up a bit to incite that shake of the fist. However, having a friend in the immigration department and the social services some of the stories makes my blood boil. The scams that are going on with foreign migrants that I hear first hand I don't need the Daily Mail for that. All I'll say is that the UK has one of, if not, the best benefit system's in the world and I don't know of anyone migrating to Australia to claim benefits. What goes on this Island with the behaviour of the shirkers, scammers, bankers and politicians just makes me want to have a change. Don't wish to work and pay for that no more. That's just how I feel.
 2. ...... That's how you spell bugger.
 3. Ah but hang on a minute. How many murders have not been reported yet? You know what it's like trying to get the police out for an incident and how long it takes for them to turn up. :biglaugh:
 4. Well if it was me I would be getting some sandwiches made, a quick throw up beach tent and making my way to Bondi Beach to watch the world go by and listen to the water crash against the shore. Then watch the sun go down and head home for a beer. One can only wish though
 5. Top property that in a nice area. Space for a swimming pool if you wish to install and the use of a tractor as well. Brilliant. Sure you will be happy there. :biglaugh:
 6. It's hard to imagine that people are cold at 14 and 15 degrees. Stuck here in the UK I find 6,7,8 degrees warm :biglaugh: I guess that once you move over to a warmer climate that you adjust and a 25 degree day is normal and when the temp drops to 15 it's like us suffering 18 down to 4.
 7. and expensive. Got a good deal in LIDL yesterday. 8 x 500ml bottles of Jennings Cumberland Ale for £8. In OZ that would have been about $7 for a bottle. However, it was hissing down when I bought them whereas in OZ it would probably have been nice and sunny.
 8. If it's the UK you are talking about I couldn't agree anymore :biglaugh:
 9. :biglaugh: The interview I went for one of my questions was "How will you manage to settle in". The interviewer was a hard core Australian. Nice chap. Around 55 ish. My reply was on the lines of driving on the same side of the road, similar interests, we all speak English, we all understand one another. Well that was it. "I'm Bladdy Australian mate" :biglaugh: He was serious as well. I then had to spend a couple of minutes back tracking, explaining what I meant, digging that hole bigger. Anyway I didn't get the job and I'm still stuck here in the UK. Next !
 10. Better climate, (if you like the heat, sun), better lifestyle. Wish I could get there and try it out for myself. Things are expensive depending on what part you go to but then the wages are higher. There’s crime everywhere. It isn’t Utopia. Don't be put off by negative comments otherwise you will never try anything. Everyone to their own. Some tried it, didn't like it, want to come home. Others love it but they don't always publicise it so you hear more negative than positive. All depends on what you want out of life. People on the forum come on to let off steam, some come home but overall at least with the negative points you get to see up front what others experience. You then adapt, change, roll with it and make it work or come back and put it down to experience. If you have the chance to go do your sums, don't overstretch yourself until you get a feel of the market, exchange, cost of living. Master that and your feelings of missing the UK and family/friends then you will make it. Keep thinking of the UK as home then you may be setting yourself up for failure. Cut that umbilical chord and good luck to you.
 11. I haven't played out for about 35 years now. Too busy working and when I'm not it's raining. Nobody calls for me anymore. :biglaugh:
 12. That's the problem I have been having since I started looking into this. It's getting there, getting that authority to be employed.
 13. Figures released today saying that there are 2.6 million unemployed at the moment and I don't think that includes people in the figures for job seekers or schemes. Wait until the Olympics are over and the cuts kick off. Politicians are not on a planet. They are in their own little safe bubble detached from reality.
 14. We are in your position now. I didn't get lucky on my job interview in March and we are still stuck here in the UK. I have a son who is 16 in July and just finished school. Just doing his exams. Starts college September. My daughter is 13 and starts her studying in January for her exams next two years. Both of them want to go to Australia !!!!! Problem is I can't for the life of me get a job there. I have had replies from applications saying thanks but no thanks. Don't think it is going to happen for us. Anyway, honest opinion....... It's really up to you and what makes you feel happy with your decision in your mind. Speak to the kids and see what feedback you get. It's a chance and a chance like this doesn't always come along. Check out what money you will be earning and if you can live comfortably first. As for the kids education I think they go back a year over there anyway but check out schooling costs, fees etc. You can get good education just by seeing a bit of the world. Personally speaking.... I would go for it. Good luck.
 15. I've had trouble typing tonight with the stuff i've drunk tonight. Best of wishes. Good luck.
 16. Well that's me knackered for deffo then
 17. Legislation and management where was it? Brits bring it on themselves? Not in this household and millions of others. Banks were quite happy to lend and ask no questions. That was wrong. Personal debt was over the limit. Who allowed that? That wasn't Labour or the Tories. There were people that saw that the bubble was bursting from 2006 but greed prevailed. Now the little people have to pay. As for the crash I think you will find that started in the good old US of A so your last comment isn't right. Greeks are not Brits. We aint that bad yet.
 18. I'm 44 and since the age of 18 when I could vote I have always attended to cast my vote. It is my right. It is my duty. When Blair got in in 1997 to the tune of "Things can only get better" after years and years of Tory corruption and lies I though great, at last a change, hope. Nah!! Blair is no different to the other whores who sell themselves about the world, milking this Island. With what has gone on since 2003 I have lost all respect for politicians. If it hadn't been for the Telegraph paper they would still have their hands in the till now. Yesterday for the first time ever I turned up to vote, looked at the choice on my two voting papers and duly ripped them up in front of the registrar, handed the pieces back and asked politely to put it in the bin. This year the bin gets my vote. OK there was a deadly silence from the three old dears and "ooo what do we do here. We've never had this before". From the chirping they were doing when I walked in to the deadly silence when I left was so funny. I did explain that not one of them was worth voting for. That is how I feel and I couldn't care less what counts or not. These people in power lie and I couldn't vote for corruption so I ripped it up. So happy Dodgy Dave and Gideon took it all angles though.
 19. When you get home you are going to miss your wife and kids (well at least the kids) and you might find yourself wanting to go back. The family unit has to stay together or you are going to feel worse when you get back to the UK. Hope it works out for you but not a position I would wish to find myself in so good luck.
 20. That's about the best way you can describe it. About right that.
 21.

MrsDoyle, Hi, I was reading a post about how you felt dirty because of some comments that were made. Well please don't. Brits can be funny people. I know because I live here. Just on night**** at the moment and reading PIO. Have been in and out of the Forum for a while because we were trying to emigrate to Au but failed.

A lt of people that move from Britain to Oz get confused because everything is different and they cannot adapt. That is their problem and not a fault of Oz. There are also some shallow minded brits that expect Oz to be the same as Britain but with the sun. There are quite a few in for a shock.

Hope your move goes well?
