  1. Em...Mistake???? I beg to differ. The OP knew what he was doing as "he wanted to party hard one last time". If he wants sympathy he will find it between sh#t and syphillis in the dictionary.
  2. hey Tbone! sorry to hijack the thread but how are you???? Long time no hear. Where in theworld are you nowadays????
  3. Better off financially. Our house is twice the size of the one we had in the UK and we have a pool as well. Lisa now works 4 days a week (she was full time on the UK). We have two brand new cars and if we want something we buy it. And we still manage to save every month.
  4. "Unfortunately" our seller told us that he had three houses and had just lost his job and wanted a quick sale as he was running out of money!
  5. I was a Fire fighter in the uk for 15.5 years and wanted a change. The Police is certainly a change!
  6. Hi all Theres been a lot of negative comments on here recently so I thought that I would post an update to cheer some of you up that are thinking of making that big move. We had been here three years on the 29th December 2013 so I thought it was time for an update. My first post about our new life in Oz is here http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/reccie-arrival-reports/104518-luvpants-have-landed-our-arrival-report.html So what has happened since we last "spoke"? We rented in Peregian Springs first whilst I was in the Police Academy. 6 weeks into the academy I found that I was going to be completing my first year in Bribie Island and Caboolture. This was not what we wanted to hear as we wanted for me to stay on the Sunshine Coast. So we moved to Buderim so that I had less travel time. I completed my first year in the Police at those places and when I got confirmed I was told that no one gets the Sunshine Coast first off as a permanent posting and you have to earn it i.e. Work out west for two to three years and then get posted back. I had a chat to the boss indoors and we both agreed that if that had to be the way then that had to be done. You can imagine my surprise when I got a phone call to tell me that my permanent posting was …….Maroochydore! I could not believe my luck. So we went straight out and bought a house in Mountain Creek. Got a 4 bedder with a lap pool for a song. Its a lovely house and we love living there. Work is great. On New years eve I was patrolling Mooloolaba beach on a quad bike. It don't get better than that! Lisa has been doing really well at work as well and says that she would not have had the same opportunities in the Uk that she does here. She regularly gets seconded to the Sunshine Coast Uni so that she can facilitate students. She acts up on her ward regularly as well. She says the stress of the job here is way lower than it ever was in the UK. Since we moved out here, Lisa's daughter has had a baby. We visited in March 2013 for the birth and I wondered how Lisa was going to feel as she always said that she was looking forward to having grandchildren. I asked her how she felt after we had been in the UK a week and she said that she lives in Australia now and every thing else has to fit in with that. She has her first solo trip back to the UK in June 2014 to see the baby again and this will be an annual thing. We have bought a camper and intend on seeing as much of Australia as we can. Last month we drove from Mountain Creek to Carnovan Gorge, then onto Longreach and Winton, then Yeppoon and then back home. A the end of this month we are camping in South west rocks. Theres a lot to see. Even Ozzies "complain" that we have seen more of Australia than they have. Over the last three years I have had a few moments of "what have I done" and "why am I here".I think I missed friends and family and the UK as a whole. But I have worked through them and have come out the other side. Luckily our marriage is rock solid and Lisa has been a great listener. At the end of the day we have done a big thing and its got to have an effect on you. I am settled now and could not imagine going back. When I went back to the UK for the birth, after a week I was blinking freezing and was missing Australia. Not having our kids here is hard and especially now that we have a grandson but we made the decision to come here and we were determined to make it work. We have only just started to connect with new friends. We have a mixture of English and Australian friends. Our friends in the UK call and message us less and less the longer we are here which is to be expected. They have their lives to live as well I suppose. So what next? At the end of this year we can apply for our citizenship. We have made Australia our home and are embracing it. WE WONT BE GOING BACK! Yes its expensive but we earn more here. Yes it gets hot but we knew that. Yes their driving is atrocious but hey theres only so many tickets I can give out at a time :-). But its also our home now. Thanks for reading.
  7. You are not reading my posts in context. I wrote "He was tried by jury at the time and that was the sentence that was handed down. End of." "End of" meaning that his sentence was handed down by a judge appointed by the government to hand down sentences and the matter was finalised. What you or I think is irrelevant. TBH I am not going to waste my time here debating something that happened 30 odd years ago. Ronnie Biggs is dead. He was involved in a crime that resulted in a man eventually losing his life and he did not serve his time in jail as sentenced by a court of law. I personally will not be losing any sleep over it.
  8. You have a short memory! You wrote " the media made a lot of money by making him out to be a hero". I replied that he was a not a hero.
  9. It does not matter what I think. He was tried by jury at the time and that was the sentence that was handed down. End of.
  10. He still had 21 years to serve to pay his debt. The man was a low life and so were the other robbers. Anything but a hero.
  11. I did not say he did but he was involved with a gang and one of the gang members bashed Jack Mills so therefore Biggs was party to the offence.
  12. Superbly said. I could not put it better myself. How many on here can name the man that was battered?????
  13. Know it well. I used to work at the Fire Station. Whereabouts you thinking of settling? JOHN
  14. Whereabouts in Essex are you from? Im from Colchester.
  15. I am cross with myself as I said that I would not post on this thread again but I mistakenly thought that you seeing actual footage might show you guys a different side. I personally know officers that were there that night and the emotions that they were experiencing. If you want to believe that Police started that fight and were in the wrong then go for your life. If you sincerely believe that the Bikie gangs are the innocent party in all this then fill your boots. I have also read on the internet that there is a group of people who despite all the evidence, still believe that the Earth is flat. Stick a fork in me as I'm done.
  16. Ah, I get it…..Its a wind up. You both like winding up people?….Must be a wind up as you can't be that stupid?
  17. What planet do you come from??????
  18. I thought that I might post a video of those charity giving, innocent, sunday morning bike riding bikies that some of you here are defending. http://aca.ninemsn.com.au/article/8750474/bikie-brawl-secret-police-video Enjoy!
  19. I have just read all this thread and wont be commenting anymore. Its getting like a school children's playground. And yes I did take the attack on my integrity very personal. How dare any of you call into question my honesty and integrity if you have never met me, just because I wear a badge!
  20. My great insight? I am a cop that has had to deal many times with these people on a regular basis and deal with the after effects of their dealings with people. Is that enough?
  21. It was big as it was the quote from the article and I highlighted the pertinent points. No other reason.
  22. Hi Britchickx I have reread my post and cant not see where I am "biting Kate's head off"? What part of that post was rude? Kate and I are FB friends and have been in contact for quite a few years and the last thing I would want to do is upset her. Hi Flag of convenience I am not being rude here but it might be prudent to not post on subjects that you obviously have no knowledge about. Do your homework and then come back on the thread. I am not going to be drawn into an argument on uninformed opinions.
