  1. First of all you are all making a massive incorrect assumption. The two articles that you have referred to make reference to "Bikies". Bikies are Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs (OMCG) and not Bikers who go out on a Sunday ride with their mates. The officer has done nothing wrong by taking rego details. The final quote of the article sums it all up and shows that that the article is media hysteria at its finest: "In light of recent activities of some clubs, especially in the south-east corner, there is an increased focus on the activities and movements of criminal motorcycle gangs," he said. "As a result this group was intercepted at the service station and once it was established they did not belong to a criminal motorcycle gang, no further action was taken and police left." The group were wearing clothing similar to OMCG clothing. The officer checked them out and was satisfied they were not OMCG and so did not take any action. I can't see a problem with that. This article has the word "Bikies" through the whole article. Bikies as in OMCG not Bikers. Read it in that context and it makes perfect sense. Are Australian Police targeting bikies? YES Are Australian Police targeting bikers? Categorically NO. Cant see a problem. Hope that clears up a few points.
  2. They are called OUTLAW motorcycle gangs for a reason!
  3. Posts like this really annoy me! Get your facts right people before making a public comment! Police are not concerned about Sunday morning riders and they are not "stereotyping the whole biker community" as some cops ride Harleys too. Police are concerned about members of Outlaw bikie gangs, wearing their colours (waistcoats with their club chapter displayed) whilst out riding, and their businesses. Ask yourselves this: Quite a few of the members do not even have a bike so why else are they in these OMCGs? Vandeux, I would think very carefully about joining a Outlaw bikie gang when you get here. Its not all about a Sunday morning ride out. JOHN
  4. Thats correct Bridgeman. Sorry for the confusion. How is Spain? ;-)
  5. Mine was non contributory.
  6. I applied for an Aged Parent Visa for my wifes parents and it was granted in three weeks. We had only been here 14 months as well! I got all the info I needed form here: http://www.pomsinadelaide.com/forum/adelaide-migration-issues/4509-cheap-parent-visas-part-i.html
  7. No, you don't have to start as a learner again. You get fined or get sent to court until you change your licence over.
  8. Emm....Not quite true mate. You will get a fine or get sent to court as effectively you are unlicensed as your right to drive on QLD roads with your UK licence only lasts for three months after you land to stay permantly.
  9. I grew up in Witham and moved to Colchester later on in life. Where are you thinking of selling in qld?
  10. Found this on the recruit website: Vision Applicants must have a corrected binocular visual accuracy of 6/6 and a corrected acuity of 6/9 in the better eye. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, the assessment is made while you are wearing your corrective lenses. If you have one weak eye that does not correct to 6/6, you may still be eligible provided you can pass a practical test of depth and speed perception. Additionally, visual acuity in the weaker eye, unaided, should be 6/36.Applicants who have had laser eye surgery (such as Lasik) must wait three months before being accepted as a recruit to rule out any risk of complications. The QPS standard on colour vision does not require perfect responses to colour vision perception, however the Service requires a good standard of colour vision perception of distinct colours, as opposed to the perception of shades. An applicant must meet the genuine and reasonable requirements of a police officer and perform duties such as: Pursuit in a motor vehicle Identifying people and objects Giving credible and reliable evidence of identification Identifying colour-coded signs, and Identifying a target correctly when firearms are being used. Colour vision will be tested at the time of your medical examination. If you already know that you are colour blind to any degree, it may be advisable to take the following steps before proceeding further with your application. If you are uncertain, most optometrists offer colour vision testing as part of the bulk-billed eye examination. If an applicant or possible applicant has a colour vision medical issue, they can have an Ishihara Plate Test completed by the Pre-Employment Medical Service (PEMS) provider or an optometrist.Applicants can also attend the QPS Recruiting Centre, Brisbane and undertake a practical colour vision test - contact Police Recruiting for further details! An applicant identified as a protan or deuteranope will not meet the QPS standards. In circumstances where the applicant is identified as deutranomalous, that applicant will undertake a colour assessment by the PEMS provider. If applicants are able to identify distinct colours, as opposed to shades, they will meet the QPS standard. If the test is borderline, a practical test will need to be administered. http://www.policerecruit.qld.gov.au/recruitEntry/preentry/Medical.htm
  11. There is a lot of paperwork and I was not a copper in the UK so cant compare. But the paperwork is not horrendous.
  12. Hey Hoffy, you forgot to add that I am a great bloke as well ;-) Hi Mojacar. You have to have a medical before you even apply and this medical has to be paid by yourself. I cant remember if there was a colour blind test but give medibank a ring and ask them. Are you a copper already and where are you situated. Its a good time at the moment to apply as there are looking for loads of officers with the G20 happening in Brisbane next year. JOHN
  13. We are doing awesome. Everyday I pinch myself as I can't believe that we live here!

  17. Everyone still ok for brekkie on Saturday morning? Remember to bring what you are eating and chairs. See you at 9am opposite "Fish on Parkin".
  18. I went down to the spit this morning to have a look. I suggest that we meet at the barbies that are in the park opposite the "Fish on Parkyn" restaurant. It is the park that has a telephone box in it near the end of the spit. Might be an idea to bring chairs if you have them in case we cant sit at one of the tables.
  19. Just a quick reminder about the 1st June Brekkie BBQ. Its at 9am so bring what you are eating. Shall we meet at along the spit? Exactly where will depend where we can get a space. I will get an ozzie flag and will fly it for all to see. JOHN
  20. Ok.....I am putting forward Saturday 1st June. Breakfast BBQ at Mooloolaba spit. Meet at 9am. Bring what you are eating (eggs, bacon etc) and cutlery and we will all muck in? JOHN
  21. Seems like there a few of us in the area of the same age. We are away from the 23-31 May but how about we meet up when we are back?
  22. Kelly Court, Maroochydore is the address of the Queensland Transport local office. You have three months to change your licence over. Its natural to have "doubts" as what you are doing is a massive thing. Have a look at my posts and you will see that I was pooping my pants at the last hurdle. But we have been here 2.5 years now and the Sunny Coast is a great place to live (if you have work). I think your hubby is going to look us upo when you get here so could be seeing you soon. John and Lisa
  23. Good work.Mountain creek is a great area (we live there!)
