Dont worry about them being local or not rather do as you suggested and see who you feel comfortable with and who has been recommended. In this day and age with email, phone etc having an agent in a different city or state is no handicap.

Not having much luck so far, just rung one and they didn't really know what a state sponsored visa was!!

Just tried Bill, but the answer machine was on, so going to try later, I'm sure it is nearly lunch time in Perth!

Will keep trying the others, luckily I'm not 40 until Feb next year, so still a bit of time to wait haha

how about posting your question and maybe someone who is going for a state sponsored visa can help you or at least tell you the type of questions you should ask.

As far as I understand there is the state sponsored 176 (permanent residency) and the 475 State Regional Visa. So which one were you thinking of going for?

Another agent I have hear recommended is Stephen Dickinson of Migration Outcomes Australia - he is Melbourne based but may be another one to contact.

Number is 0432 150 323

Thank you so much for your help, my situation is a little complicated, but I'll try and simplify it:

I'm in Australia at the moment on a student visa, I have nearly completed 2 years (in 2 weeks time) and have a further 12 months to finish my degree.

I have been working for 20 hours a week for 12 months now as a Financial Investment Adviser, and have recently noticed that this occupation is on the NSW state sponsorship list. (We only live about 30 minutes from the NSW border and I have seen many clients there).

My original post asked the question as to whether, with state sponsorship, could I continue to study, as I want to complete my degree, and possibly continue and complete a Masters.

I have also been a Financial Investment Adviser in the UK, from April 1996 until we left to move here in December 2009 (All of which was with the same employer)

I am aware that I don't yet have a degree, however, I believe 5 years experience can be used instead.

I also understand that I can take IELTs and have my skills assessed and think that I will be over the pass mark, however, please tell me if I'm wrong!

I have worked the points out as follows:

25 - Age 33-39

5 - Australian Employment 12 months

15 - UK employment 13 years

10 - education (I have completed an Australian Diploma whilst over here)

55 Total

If I then did the IELTs test, I could get a possible additional 10 or 20 points, depending on how well I did!

I'm looking at this now, although I am happy on the student visa, immigration requirements are changing so rapidly, and I don't want to find after finishing my degree, because of my age, I am unable to stay here.

I hope someone can help, as I said above, the migration company I did manage to get hold of didn't know what a state sponsored visa was, and kept saying I would have to finish my degree before I could apply for any other visa! I was looking at the 176!

PS Please feel free to move this to a more appropriate section if it's in the wrong place!!

Thats it - just make sure they are registered and you can phone the organisations in charge of regulation to get the thumbs up etc.
