Guest guest48800 Posted August 26, 2011 Share Posted August 26, 2011 Hello all, Just wondering how common chest x-ray "abnormalities" are? We had our medicals a fortnight ago, all fine and "graded A" except for my chest x-ray. Apparently there is a small irregular calcified area showing on one of my lungs :eek:. I'm mid 30's, fit & healthy (or so I thought!), hardly ever ill and to my knowledge have never had TB or Pneumonia. Is a finding like this pretty common? I appreciate why it's being queried, but I've been stressing quite a bit over the last 2 days that it's something awful and i'm doomed! :wacko: Am off to see my GP later today, fingers crossed it's nothing serious. JoandJon Posted August 26, 2011 Share Posted August 26, 2011 It probably sounds like a cop-out, but you've done the right thing to talk with your GP. Abnormalities come up all the time on CXR's, but it's your Doctor who can talk you through what your CXR actually means and what you need to do next - if you need to do anything at all! Feel a lot better now I've spoken with my GP, she was great, got me in at the hospital across the road for another X-Ray straight away (which I wasn't expecting!), she didn't seem overly concerned by the original report. The radiologist had a look and didn't seem too concerned either, I should be able to pick up a comparison report early next week, which I'll then forward to the Immi med centre and hope DIAC are happy with the findings. Comparison report sent to med centre but it still all needs to be referred back to radiologist who will then compile his own report to submit to CO. I've had a chat with the doctor at the med centre who says they may pass it through, but most likely I'll have to have sputum tests and see a respiritory specialist, even though we're 99.9% sure there's nothing untoward! I'm sure all they need is a report about their finds. And if the doctor says it's nothing to worry about, just trust him. I believe they do chest x Rays mainly for TBC reasons. We had a hiccup as well/ My hubby has high blood pressure which was discovered at his medicals. From then on he had to visit our GP every 3 weeks, trying on medication and after 2 months the GP finnaly gave him the report which was sent back to the hospital where they did our medicals and they sent it to the immigration now. Thanks, I'm going to chase up with the med centre in a couple of days to see where we are, am wondering if it's worth pre-empting a request for further checks by booking in to see a specialist before the reports are sent back, but wondering if it needs to be a nominated specialist who's been vetted by DIAC? ginger Posted September 6, 2011 Share Posted September 6, 2011 Hi, my son was having tests for epilepsy which turned out to be all clear. His Dr had to write up a report to prove he was clear, this went to our panel Dr who had to check it and forward it on. We found this added about 6 weeks to the whole process as the Aussie side of things can take upto 3 weeks alone. Hope this helps.
