kasper5
Im about to sort out my WH Visa after planning it for over a year. All seems straightforward. Now I come across the health insurance problem. As I understand there is an emergency reciprical agreement between UK/OZ but I still have to pay for other costs. Apparently policies are based on what state you are in so I cant do QLD and NSW. So NSW it has to be. Ive got quotes of $200/month to $100/month but it is going to take an age to sift through these. Can anyone recomend a good policy? Beatts
Hi Kasper I've just applied for health insurance through IMAN to support my 457 application. They seem to specialise in oversea's visitors. Website is http://www.austhealth.com/ I'm sure they will have something to suit you too for your working holiday. Alternatively you could try Bupa Australia but not sure of the website. I tried them and IMAN seemed slightly cheaper Paul
lebourvellec
You dont need health insurance for WHV, you need backpacker travel insurace. When I went over on WHV i got insurace through Downunder Insurance. I got worldwide insurace as was travelling through other countries on way there and back. Im sure there are other companies doing the same sort of insurance http://www.duinsure.com/sites/duinsure.nsf/quote1?openform You can get a medicare card once you arrive in Oz just take passport ( I also showed NHS card) to medicare office and they will send you one. This is valid for whole of Australia. You need to pay for treatment upfront and take recipts to medicare office with card and will get percentage of refund. MARYROSE02
I don't have medical insurance, just pay cash when I have to and use the Medicare card where I can. Some medical practices don't charge anything above the Medicare set rate so if you hunt around you won't have to pay to see a GP. You may be able to link your bank account to your Medicare card and then have any benefit paid direct to your account.
Justin Grossbard
For a WHV you can either get travel insurance which will cover you for some accidents or for health insurance you need specific overseas health insurance policy (such as IMAN which as discussed earlier). Based on it, for a budget end, IMAN is most likely what you are looking for.
