Hi all, can anyone tell me if money paid to o.h. from UK whilst he is living in australia, (it will be within the uk tax allowance) so no tax in UK, will be taxable in australia?

recon it depends if he will be working in australia, then presume both are added together dont really know the answer, best he asks an accountant wont cost for asking advice

Yes all worldwide income must be declared. Any tax paid in UK will be deducted you do not pay twice.

Income is often taxed where it arises but still has to be declared in country of residence.

For example I rent out a house in Oz but am resident in UK. I have to do an Oz tax return and pay any tax owed to ATO. I still have to declare the income in the UK though but any tax paid to Oz will be set against tax owed in UK.

Whether you pay tax in Australia on your UK income depends primarily on your visa status.

Temporary visaholders residing in Australia do not pay Aus tax on most types of UK source income.

However, where you are working in Australia - ie are receiving income for your personal efforts - I anticipate such income is properly assessable in Australia irrespective of your visa status, whether or not the income derives from a source in the UK.

Best regards.
