rammygirl
Not relevant to the course BUT is your intention to stay in Oz and obtain PR beyond the 457?? If so your son will not be classed as dependent on you if he is working and will have to apply in his own right, IF he qualifies for a visa at all. Just wanted to make sure you had taken this into account.
Guest
not sure if I can help.. but can suggest that since your child is now 19 and will need an independant visa, could he not ask the company to sponsor him? They could sponsor him on the Nomination scheme of skilled migrant or the 457 visa? as the 457 does have restrictions.. Also the company once sponsoring him could help him with the process of doing his certIII course..
jillgamble
We are planning on applying for PR after the two years, was hoping our son could apply in his own right if he was a qualified plumber as it is on the skilled shortage list. Just need to get him onto the course.

I think you either yourself or your son should speak to the company that want to hire him; see what they say? see if they will sponsor him :cute:
Quoll
IIRC there was a thread on here recently about apprenticeships and the outcome was that apprenticeships are for permanent residents and unfortunately you are temporary residents. As your son is not qualified it would be unlikely that a company would be able to sponsor him because there would be stacks of Aussie kids who would be able to fill that position. Your son can work but not as an apprentice with the study that involves - he can go and stack shelves, serve in Maccas or file papers, anything that his current skill level permits. Sadly, it's one of those catches with being a temporary resident.
