Hi Harpersgirl..

I know, the expense just goes on and on..but it's worth toughing up and shopping around!! it's a drag though!

We've two cats and a dog going too...I won't even tell you the cost of that!!! And I'm a Vet, so most of the background bits I had done, but the cost of crates/flights/quarantine/transport in Australia ..nevermind It's only once!! thank god:wacko:

It's going to be worth it..a new life..better life for your kids..Hard to put a price on eh?

You'll be swinging on the porch soon and it'll all be a memory!!

Rach:smile:

Thought I'd add my experience to this thread...

Have been arranging for my parents house contents and my own to be sent to Victoria.

I had Pickfords, Anglo Pacific, PSS and Crown round to quote and the difference was amazing both in quality of service and prices.

40ft

Highest £9,390

Lowest £6,750

20ft

Highest £4,995

Lowest £3,955

These quotes were for exactly the same properties and the estimated quantities were also completely different.

I will be making a decision today and am thinking the we will be going with Anglo Pacific who weren't the cheapest but general feedback from other seems to be pretty good so fingers crossed.

Good luck to you all with your negotiations!

Its all a bit of a minefield isn't it? So far I've had quotes of £3850 for a 20' container with 700 cu ft or 3350 for the same volume but in groupage. That was PSS. I've had an online quote from Dolphin for 3250 for the container but that doesn't include port fees at Sydney....not sure how much they wd be but I'm going to go back and ask for an inclusive quote as i don't want any surprises.

What seems extraordinary is that even if you accept a quote from some of these companies AND pay up, the price can still go up! I'm going to pick one who guarantees a price, if i can find one

John Masons and Bishops coming in tomorrow to quote...

None will guarantee exactly as they do not know what will happen at customs. Most will include the basic costs but cannot predict what will happen if AQIS inspect the cargo and find something they are not happy with. So there is always a poss that there may be extra fees. If they do give an absolute price it would potentially be much higher than a normal quote as they would then be liable for any extra fees.

Thinking Rammygirl is pretty much right Fiz..so are you, it is a minefield:huh:

We're taking some antique furniture back, which will be on the list of contents, and have been told several times that AQIS may want to inspect it even though we had a specialist survey done in the UK and a report on any possible infestation..Even though that came back clean, they can insist it's checked and treated before leaving port.

It can work out at over $90 per hour spent?...not sure if that's the removal guys plugging for cash, but I can't see why. We would have to meet any unforeseen treatment or quarantine fee's separately.

Some thing else for me to ask advice for!!! Plus I heard yesterday that my employer in Brisbane would like me to get there a month earlier...
