  1. Congratulations Moira..the long wai t( and all the worry) is over! Rgds Fiz
  2. Sorry to hear about your delays Moira....I hope, as I'm sure it will , that this is just a small blip on the journey and that it will be resolved quickly. Try not to worry..... Rgds Fiz
  3. I think it is possible...it used to be just new builds but I have heard that it has been relaxed a little.....you do have to get permission but I am afraid i dont know who from.......try google!
  4. We are all meeting on October 27th if you're in Sydney by then....otherwise I am sure we'll find a time in November. Mike and Sue have just arrived back too and they'll be there on the 27th... Rgds Fiz
  5. Hi Moira They don't ask for the money until they have checked all the paperwork.....in my s-in-l's case, he thought he'd taken everything but was short of one payslip: that omission delayed everything by 2 weeks so it might be worth mentioning that to your d-in-law. Centrelink's requirements re proof of ID and income are painfully pedantic...or perhaps that was just the Sydney office! nearly there....
  6. Very exciting-you're almost there. There's no need to do the agent form. For me, the hold up in the next stage of the process was Centrelink so if its possible to get you assurer moving quickly on that, I would. Everything else went very smoothly. not long now! Fiz
  7. Many congratulations. The day you thought would never come has come!
  8. Hi Zumsor Like some of the others who've replied, I'm single and 61 and I've now been in Sydney for 12 months. Everything has gone really well-I actually got a full time job really easily which has helped the finances but even without that I reckon I would manage. I considered bringing my car-it would have cost about £4000 to bring-but didn't. I bought a new car here on a special deal..new cars are relatively cheap strangely. I think its a close thing whether to ship or not..there's a thread about it on this forum. Good luck and don't worry about being on your own-there's loads of opportunities to join things here depending on your interests and you'll soon meet people! fiz
  9. Regarding sons in law as sponsors, i think the question really relates to the assurer as that is where income matters. My son in law was my assurer and there was no problem. From memory I think my daughter and son in law were joint sponsors..and again no issues arose Good luck!
  10. The best advice I have had was given to me in a card just as I left. It was from an Australian colleague who had lived in the UK for 4 years. She said that it would be an emotional roller coaster..and she was so right. I've been here for 4 months now and I would say that on 9 days out of 10, I feel very upbeat but I do have "down" days , to do with missing friends mostly. I am not sure if it is worse because I have moved out on my own....however, what I do know is that the advice has made me recognise the fact that it is/has been a huge move and that it is entirely normal to have pangs of missing people , places etc. It has also helped meeting people through this site and in other ways...my daughter's best friend who moved out a year ago really struggled and even went back to the UK but has now settled back again in Sydney So Moira, doubts are understandable but for me, the good days way outweigh the bad ones! I'm a similar age to you and didn't think I wanted to work in the same field but I have realised that work is the quickest way to get integrated, especially if you're living on your own..families are great but we all need social company as well! Good luck and I'm sure it will work out for you fiz
  11. And it was lovely to meet you too, Pam. Hopefully we will meet up again when you are visiting your daughter and her family..my daughter is also looking to buy in the Collaroy/Narrabeen area ironically! Hope your return flight goes well Rgds Fiz
  12. and hopefully by then you'll at least have a co, if not a visa! Now we have made contact I'm sure this will continue...looking forward to you joining us
  13. it was lovely to meet you all today...I hope we can do it again! Mike-thank you for the tip off re returning visa..i just found this which, if i understand it correctly, means I'm OK for 4 or so years-do you agree? Once you have a permanent resident visa you can come and go as you please during its validity. When it expires you will need to replace it with a Resident Return Visa (RRV) for which you will need to be resident in Australia unless exceptional circumstances apply. Rgds Fiz
  14. Really good to hear you are able to make it-see you on Wed Fiz
