new VIC SMP - where are you now

Hi everyone...

Any idea when will Victoria reopen ICT sponsorship again? I nominated ICT Business Analyst but now they suggested ICT Security Specialist.

I wish to migrate to migrate to Melbourne but seems like it's rejected alot of ICT applicants. Should I accept ACS' suggestion, apply ACT SS since ICT security specialist is in their list? Or submit additional doc to be accessed under SOL schedule 3, so that I do not require any ss. But time is running out now. might be too rush before the 1st July deadline.

Well, ACS has been very proactive in turning down BA apps or asking them to go for Analyst Programmer (which is kinda similar to BA in job responsibilities) or Security Specialist or Systems Administrator or Network Analyst .

My guess is ACS can't just give away BA places as it is the only ICT occupation on WA and Qld's SMP. Point is BA being in great demand atm throughout Australia, may be DIAC (through ACS) wants to restrict the number of apps opting for that.

Adding fuel to the fire, a lot of recent Australian uni grads who studied Information Systems have picked up BA when going for assessment. That might have caused ACS to scrutinise the offshore BA apps, as it can't just turn down onshore recent grads' assessment.

Coming to Vic opening ICT applications again, this is a close call with the impending change in points systems come July 1st and the possibility of a new SOL. As you can see Vic stopped accepting ICT apps after Jan 30th, but has just been able to process apps submitted till Dec.

Most probably, if there happens to be a new Vic SMP post July 1st, I'd say ICT occupations too would be opened.

It's your call now! Good luck!!

Yes I mean ACS. they suggested me to change to ICT security specialist instead of my originally nominated ICT BA. I have yet to make the decision.

a very tight situation your's !

ACS used to change the nomination at their discretion if they didn't like your nomination

how much points can you get on the new system? how old are you and can you make 7-each in IELTS, or even better: can you make 8-each?

if yes, it might be wise to wait for the new system, of course depending on your personal circumstances.

if yes, it might be wise to wait for the new system, of course depending on your personal circumstances.

My points in the new system:

Age - 30 (30)

Qualification - 15 (Bachelor Degree)

Overseas Work exp - either 10 or 15 (5 yrs in nominated occupation, 3 yrs in diff area of IT)

IELTS - 0 --> 1st attempt: 8.5,8.5 7,6.5 ; 2nd - 8.5, 8, 6, 7.5 (still failed to score all 7!!!)

State Sponsorship - 5 (if I nominate ICT Security Specialist)

Total: 65 only if i can claim 15 points for work exp, or achieve 7 in all bands in IELTS.

I have some questions abt work experience...

1) From DIAC website on the new point test, it says "work experience in nominated occupation or a closely related occupation". My previous work experience (3 yrs) was programming and system/network admin. So can all my 8 yrs of IT experience be considered?

2) For my programming experience, i worked from April 2004-March 2006. short of 1 month to be full 2 yrs, and 1 week gap in between for changing jobs in sept 2004. So by right I cant be accessed by ACS to be nominated as analyst programmer right?

Hi... You mean there could be another new SOL? Never heard of that. Do you think ACT SS is easier to be granted rather than Vic SS? As I can see in some forum, quite a number of ICT applicants were rejected by Vic. What was the IELTS requirement for ICT before it was suspended in January?

Yep, there would be, most probably, a new SOL implemented post July 1st.

Well, as far as I've come across, they do say ACT SS guys are a lot friendlier bunch and the turn around time is far better, as well. Moreover, you can just mail them your CV and ask if you've got any chance of making the cut. Incredible, right? I know!!

Yep, Vic is very well known for turning down major chunk of ICT apps. But, you can't blame those guys. Here are the reasons:

1. Vic has second highest number of IT jobs after NSW in Australia.

2. Vic released its SMP before NSW did.

3. There's no processing fee for Vic unlike NSW and ACT ($275).

4. Almost all of the IT occupations, both from SOL3 and SOL4, are included in Vic SMP.

5. The IELTS threshold required by Vic is 6.0 in each band, unlike NSW (7.0 each)

6. Vic doesn't ask for proving the funds available, unlike NSW and ACT.

7. Vic doesn't ask for skills assessment and IELTS score at the time of SS app.

8. Queensland and Western Australia, which have the next highest IT jobs in that order, have only ICT Business Analyst on SMP.

The above points were taken from my previous post here: http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/migration-issues/99554-new-vic-smp-where-you-now-77.html#post944115

That answers your question about IELTS requirement as well. Anything else you need, just shout!

Hehe, thanks for being my deputy Buddy. I just came back from Munich. Madame Uli sat her IELTS today and I visited the National Museum's kiddy-department with our little bugger. Nice day (for me and the little one ).

Munich... I visited it 23 years ago.. it was still West Germany, I was still a kid (admittedly, the kid is still living within ;) )

my father studied university in Munich, then he worked for Siemens, in total he lived there for 12 years

he took us in a trip to Germany to show where he lived and studied, also took us to the BMW factory Stuttgart: FANTASTICSH :)

(although he raised all kids on the ideology of: Mercedes is the car, every thing else is nonsense)

also visited a Botanic garden, I'm not sure it was the one in Berlin, it was the first time in my life I saw a Banana tree :) yes people, in Germany

I can go for days..

just to know how deep it is rooted: I have some hand tools, made in "W.Germany" in original packaging, for me they are artifacts :)

keep us posted about Mrs. Uli's IELTS result, my best wishes! :)
