Karl Not much choice in flights, it is Qantas or Virgin Blue - more likely Virgin to be cheapest. If you are coming in from Sydney, it is only 4 hours on the bus or train. Guest Taff
Canberra has a good range of places to stay, what's your budget?
Guest sabink
Its more the number of nights that will be the issue. So was thinking self service apartments, nice, or mix of that + hotel? Yes will be flying out of Sydney or Melbourne and connecting
Quoll
Go for serviced apartments in Civic if you can Wotif is a good place to start looking although you can often find short term furnished accommodation in Real Estate & Homes for Sale, Rent and Share | allhomes rentals (there is a nice little house in Ainslie which looks to be good value and it is within walking distance of Civic) Civic is sort of the hub so elsewhere you are more likely to need to rely on public transport or car to a greater degree. You can get cheap sale fares on either Virgin or Qantas - personally I prefer Qantas and would definitely fly if coming from Melbourne. If coming from Sydney then a bus would be worth considering as it is only around the 3.5 - 4 hours usually and you will get to see some of the countryside (boring as can be but you can doze if you like). There is still a train from Sydney but hardly anyone goes on it these days anyway. Dont forget to join up with the frequent flyer program for the international airline you use then you may be able to accrue points on internal flights as well. If you are just coming to Canberra then get your connecting flights as part of your international package rather than adding them on.
