Guest wanderer
I suppose for your husband to have a good supply of work opportunities it'll either be Melbourne and region or regional cities, the larger ones of Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo usually having a slightly worse climate than Melbourne, especially B & B. And you'll want to take into account whether junior is going to want to explore tertiary education at Uni level as more options out to the east those regionals to the west have Uni facilities too now for some courses. And do you want to be coastal? I spent quite a few years growing up around various Vic regions and though it is a lot busier now, areas like the Dandenongs and Mornington Peninsula have always been favourites and there's plenty of real estate work going on in both areas or close to the Dandenongs that work opportunities ought to be as OK as anywhere but will always be affected in economic downturns, though plumbing maintenance is always a necessity if hub is that type of plumber. And if you wanted to get further away from hustle an bustle, there's plenty of smaller regional cities up along the Murray river and a lot of rural residential areas as well as towns. Climate wise, it'll always be drier and when hotter in summer, it'll be a drier heat and so easier to take. Alternately, you could head further east out to Gippsland/Latrobe Valley/South Gippsland for some lovely country though a lot got burnt in savage bushfires earlier this year and that's one thingyou might want to be considering wherever you go. You have Sale, Bairnsdale and then Lakes Entrance further east that are all reasonable size but smaller cities with surrounding countryside more open and so less threatened by bushfires. Real Estate prices are usually quite a bit lower out in regional areas but then capital appreciation is also always lower too but best thing to do is to not try and decide too quick and give yourself a few weekends and trip out to different areas and you might come across little towns like Daylesford, Euroa, Drouin, Warragul, Wonthaggi or Leongatha and think this just fits what you have been looking for. And then ask around and see what services there are and what the opportunities for employment are.
Guest The Pom Queen
Hi and welcome to PIO, have you already got your visa or are you still getting this organised? There are lots of plumbing vacancies in the South East suburbs at the moment. Kate

furkew
If hubby is a plumber, I dont personally see him having that much of a problem getting a job anywhere if his qualifications are recognized. My wife has been a nail tech for 10 years, and although she doesnt do much at the moment, there is plenty of opportunities out there for nail techs & beauty therapists. Kids settle in well normally. 15 is not an easy age but there are plenty of other 15 year old boys & girls to meet over here , As to where to live, thats dependant on what you would like. Beach life, city life, space and peace, or real bush life? Wanderers suggestions are actually all very good. Gippsland and that area is very nice as is the Dandenong ranges (where we live) but the mornington peninsular also has a lot of positives, so really you have a lot of choices. Have you thought about coming over first for a reccy ? The further away from the CBD, the cheaper in general property prices, and because of your work experience and hubbys trade, it wont really affect the job situation for you as a family (IMO)
