Hi all!

We are new to this site, and thank god we have found it in time! Our house has sold in the uk, and the people want us out in three weeks! Then we get on the plane to Brisbane with a lump of money and a lot of dreams!

We have been planning this for years but are still in shock that its all happening.

Can anybody give us insight to how I would stand in landing a Sales Rep job out there, and also has anyone heard of a company called Free Spirit? They have advised me that I just need to get me and my family out there, (wife two kids aged 3 & 5) land a job offer and they will sort the sponsorship out for me.

Its such a big risk, as we have no degrees, only 7 years experience in field sales. Any information at all on this would be great.

We arent look for permanent residency, just a chance to start a new life as the UK sucks.

Hopefully I will hear some news from you guys soon.

Look I'm no expert on this but if you arrive without a visa which allows you to 'reside & work' here you'll stand a big chance of ending up back in the UK without ever leaving immigration... you'll find your passport stamped with "no return" for five years & the probability of emigration anywhere just made winning lotto look good odds :).

Even if you do manage to pass through immagration without work visas you'll struggle to find work other than casual labouring (work is hard... money sucks). You'll be exploited by rogue employers because no-one else will touch you & you'll effectively be 'on the run' from the authorities.

My advice is think very carefully before arrivivng without proper authority... this Free Spirit mob may be genuine but you should assume they're not.

Hi and welcome to the site. Freespirit is one of several organisations that will sponsor you in Australia if you find your own job and you then pay them a proportion of your salary in return for this sponsorship. However, you can't just come out here on a holiday visa and work, that's not allowed so you must get a working holiday visa which will allow you to stay in Australia for a year and work but there are restrictions, ie you can't work in the same job for more than 6 months but at least it will give you a year to look around for a job and find someone who will sponsor you although not sure how successful you'll be in sales as they could say that these positions can be easily filled by Australians. Good luck with it all though.

Hi All

Thanks for the replies, but I think Ive confused you all.

We have no intention of working in oz until we hopefully get a sponsership visa thorugh a company such as free spirit.

We will come out on a visa that lets us stay there for three or six months. During this time I will go to job interviews, but will not work until my sponsorship visa comes through. We have enough money to stay without working for six months anyway.

We just wish we knew someone that has done this, so if there were any problems with this idea, we could deal with them.

Hope this clarifies things guys

Still think you might be on dodgy ground??? If your arriving on a tourist visa & then start looking for work you may still be in breach of immigration law. I should check things out carefully first, but... good luck

Again, even if you secured sponsorship there will be a delay in granting your visa, you'll still have to pay for medicals and I'm not sure if this visa is granted off shore??

I would look into it very carefully, I've never heard of anyone doing it this way .... maybe there's a reason for that? We have a number of agents on her ptlabs (sorry don't know you're name), phil olsen, alan and tony - I'm sure if you pm one of them (if they don't pick up this thread they will give you some advice.

Personally, I'd persue your dream by renting in the UK and trying to secure a sponsorship from there and applying in the usual manner.

Hi Wincanton

I hear you! I've been in sales for 18 years, no degree and managed to get sponsorship so yes, it can be done. I've been in recruitment for the last 3 years so I think that helped as most recruitment agencies are savvy about the sponsorship process.

I'd be really careful about companies offering to sponsor you once you get a job. What's in it for them? As far as I can see they're getting paid for doing nothing and exploiting your lack of local knowledge. As far as I know, you can apply for temporary residence yourself providing you have a job offer. Speak with one of the many migration consultants out there who will assist you and might charge you 100 GPB for some of their time, but worth the investment to know for sure.

What type of sales are you in? Why not target some international companies yourself with a base in the UK and see what they say?

The challenge is being in sales and not having local contacts. This will mean a steeper learning curve, slightly higher risk for an employer and maybe a longer time before they see your results. However, people from the UK are appreciated here as our work-rate tends to be higher than Australian's as we are most used to the cut-throat world of sales in the UK so find it relatively easy here.

If you want, feel free to send me your resume and I'll make some enquiries for you. I specialise in placing senior IT sales people and senior IT people in general. However, my company has many different teams and expertise and we do have a general sales and marketing team I can ask for advice.

Good luck and don't give up if you want to get here. It took me 10 years but once I found a company who'd sponsor me, it took 8 weeks to be here.

Hiya, just wanted to let you know that we are planning on doing the same thing as you but going in April of 2008. My OH is in the same situation as you - Industrial sales 6 years but no degree so cant go on independant skilled visa, need to get 457 sponsorship.

Ive spoken to a few agents about this and even though it is a risk ie we need to find an employer AND sponsorship it is possible.

As long as we do not work on the tourist visa if we get an offer of employement on shore then a 457 can be applied for on shore, and granted.

So best of luck to you, ... where there is a will there is a way !!!
