Guest Rachyj
Hi everyone, Me and my hubby are just going through the visa process at the mo (176 QLD SS), and we are just wondering if any Network Security Specialist's currently living in Brisbane can offer any advice on securing a job in Oz? Just out of interest he is CCIE (R&S), CCSP, CCNP, CCDP etc certified. We are planning on moving out in January, and we have been advised that it is unlikely we will be able to get a job secured before emigrating, as employers prefer 'face to face' contact-is this correct? If so, what is the best plan of attack when finding a job-is it best signing up with lots of Australian agents before we go? Can anyone recommend one that they used to secure a job? Network security is currently on the list for QLD SS visa's so there must be a demand, so hopefully there are a few jobs available which my husband can apply for..... Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Rach Any advice would be greatly appreciated
InfosecGuy
Hi Rach, I am not sure that many people on this forum will appreciate what a CCIE is. I'm a CCNP plus a range of infosec qualifications which I'm sure your hubby would be aware of and I would think he would have no probs getting an extremely good job whichever State he 'lands in' (whether it's IT security or enterprise layer 2/3/4 design/build/management). Have you not considered approaching global firms in the UK that have a major presence in Australia/Brissie i.e. send his CV to HR and state his intentions to relocate and basically give them an option to get him on board in advance of your move? There are plenty of FTSE 100s that I could list. Worth a shot plus you cut out the recruitment agents! Guest Rachyj
Hey InfosecGuy, thank you so much for the responses!! Great idea about contacting a few companies with Oz presence prior to moving out, will definitely do that! We are hoping to make the move out Jan 2010 (we are approaching medical and police check in the visa process), so we have a little time to plan this out. Thanks again man Darren
zamb
Hi there, I am also in a similar boat. I've got a CCIE, with Juniper and some security credentials. Heading to Melbourne at the end of September. I've been approaching headhunters in Melbourne for the last 2 months now and have had VERY LITTLE response  I think it sounds like a great idea contacting a few companies in the UK with Oz presence prior to moving out. I've not thought about this before. Thanks for the tip, InfosecGuy! Now where do I start... Hey InfosecGuy, thank you so much for the responses!! Guest CaptainCook
Hi, Really glad to meet fellow infosec professionals! I am a CISSP / CISA / CISM / CLAS / and a few of others.... I too am coming out to Oz in November, and I am having little response from Oz agencies. Not even a sniff which I am finding a little unsettling as usually I get jumped on by various agents in the UK :-) Anyway, would like to exchange experiences with fellow professionals in this regard. Is it a case of - until you are here, we wont speak to you, or is it - Just what we need, another POM! Any ideas what the thinking is????????????? Guest Jhonnywalker
Sorry .. to wake this thread up! I am a IT security guy as well with CISSP, CCSP, MCSA & ITIL V3 Foundation. Have been trying to get hold of something before arriving in October, but no luck as yet! Cheers, JW
Rudi
I would definitely try chasing opportunities before you come - there's nothing to be lost by doing so and you might get lucky. When we came a few years back my hubby had a job to come to, so they will offer jobs to people outside of Australia. Good luck Love Rudi x
Guest Jhonnywalker
Hmm.. Thank you Rudy.. That really, is soothing response.
