Hi

We love camping in England ( Mad we know ) and are really looking forward to camping in Oz, however i have had a quick scout round on internet and have found most sites ban dogs, am i looking in the wrong places or is the case?

Dont reallly know what we will do for hols if this is the case as we were really looking forward to lots of week ends away in the tent in the sunshine (for a change)

Would love to know of your experiences good or bad

many thanks

Hi there,

try googling pet friendly accommodation in victoria, there is aplce near Toora,Vic which has sites fenced in for your caravan/tent and area for the dogs. There are also leash free areas within the camp site, the site waS purposly made for dogs i think they have agility courses and even a pet hotel if you want to go out without the dogs.

So i would have a look at that, i have never been there nearly booked but they were full but have friends that have been there before and said it was great.

Hope this helps.

Hi

Get a book called Camps Australia Wide. Our copy is #4. We got ours from the bookshop slightly cheaper but you can order it from www.campsaustraliawide.com it is quite pricey but has all the camps that the writers have been to throughout Australia and it says wether dogs are allowed as well. You can update the info via the web site once you have purchased it so if any changes occur ie. they stop letting dogs in, then you can check before you go.

Happy camping!!

Hi

We use a book that covers the whole of Australia called "Bush camping with Dogs" - it states it

"Features more than 1100 campsites nationally, over 500 parks, reserves and forests, location maps for each state, full table of facilities and activities plus detailed maps, photos and information. Ideal for travellers with a 4WD, car and tent, caravan, motorhome or camper trailer."

Explore Oz is another good site for travel information and a forum. Here's the link to the book on explore oz site.

Hiya

Thank you for the info, we'll definately look into those

I think we had in mind to be a hour or so away from Melbourne but near the coast, our son wants to surf and the dogs love being on the beach. when we look on the maps its really hard to get into perspective the distances involved

The Great Ocean Road would be great but it is around 3 hours from Melbourne depending on where abouts you stay. Philip Island would be a lovely place.

Good Job your not moving to Queensland, there are hardly any places you can take a dog here. Most camp sites are in National Parks and dogs are banned even on a lead, apparently they scare the wild life. Funny how taking a dog into National parks in the UK does not seem to be a problem disturbing the wildlife !!!!
