South Australian Government Provides a Pathway for Skilled Applicants

Just to add to Alan's welcome news, the MIA has released some further information about how to avoid the rush (posted on http://www.iscah.com):

HOW TO APPLY:

The Adelaide Skilled Processing Centre (ASPC) has advised me that it will be writing to the 1493 applicants who are affected in the next two or three weeks, inviting them to make the investment. ASPC has requested that you wait for that invitation letter before making the investment, as that is the way SAFA would prefer to do it. Please make sure you follow SAFA's requirements carefully.

If everyone co-operates in this, it will be a smoother and more efficient process for everyone.

DIAC will probably give people 3 months to make the investment. While they may be fairly lenient about this, and consider an extension of time, they would obviously like to process the cases as soon as is reasonably possible.

Cheers,

... and an interesting reflection on that is that the government now says that there are 1493 applicants affected whereas previously there were allegedly 5000 and in a letter earlier this month the Minister was claiming that there were 898 onshore applicants and 341 offshore applicants still affected. There should be a parliamentary question for details of how those figures were created and then massaged. No, I don't think that the DIAC recruitment program has failed to bring in people who can count, just very sad that what ought to have been a simple and practical administrative solution became a political problem.

Hi Andy,

we received the automated response from aspc.processing@immi.gov.au telling us about the changes to general skilled migration.

Our online application was loged 11 th Jan 08, and our medicals and police reports have now expired. We have sent a number of emails to a named contact in immi, but have had no reply. Got p_ _ _ _ _ off and done nothing about it for a couple of weeks. To fill you in on the blanks, our application was being processed by Clare mulner ( Visa Connections), so we have been a little frustrated and thought it best to take a step back. It is our intention to phone this evening.

From your blog it is understood that the government is looking for an investment bond, to grease the wheels of progress. Talk about rubbing salt in a wound. Do you have an idea of the cost of this bond?.

I am starting to think that our decision to migrate to Australia was a poor and costly one.

Regards

James

The capital investment Bond that is the subject of this thread was a means of obtaining 5 bonus points under the old categories of skilled visas that ceased to be available for applications lodged after 31/08/2007.

Best regards.
