You don't necessarily have to have an Australian passport. https://www.abf.gov.au/entering-and-leaving-australia/smartgates/arrivals#:~:text=SmartGates automatically process passengers through,may leave the airport faster. However, you may be processed differently on your arrival because you will be going into quarantine.
