Only real downside of the southwest is when the kids go to university Bunbury Hospital has coped quite a lot of flak over recent times. Illness and seeing specialists are but another reason to consider when moving too far south. But of course has attractions in retirement. Crime issues over more recent years also something to consider. But I did consider moving back Down South myself at one time.

Not cheap but we can be there from where we live in an hour. We go 3 or 4 times a year, love it.

Loved Rotto ............................. it hadn't been 'gentrified' then. We used to take our own picnic and swim in the beautiful turquoise sea. It's not really changed that much. The units have been improved but not by much. Still reasonably priced if there are 2 couples. There's a new hotel, sandfire, next to the pub and some glamping place next to the lighthouse on pinkeys beach. Both of them are a rip off price wise. Right next door to the glamping is the campsite. Take your own tent and use the glamping facilities would be a good option.

We have stayed there a few times, not as cheap as the units but you get breakfast thrown in. It's a karma resort place and sometimes have groupon deals much cheaper. Definitely been busier since covid. We had a phone call from karma last week, apparently there's a special offer for past customers for 2 nights for the price of one. Think the wifes going to book something for October. Be fine swimming at pinky's and the basin by then.

Having worked there, I actually prefer it in winter. It's a relaxing if longish walk around the island. Pub is lovely when it's cold and the fire is going. Very relaxing. Very different place in summer.
