Medical

Hi All,  My husband is currently in process of getting sponsored visa to work in Australia.  We are thinking about the medical required.  My husband had A Basl Cell Carcinoma removed three years ago with no further treatment needed.  Would this be a reason to fail the medical ? Thankyou for your advice in advance.

I doubt very much a basal cell carcinoma would be a problem.     More to the point, though, what profession is he in?  Temporary visa holders are not being allowed into the country at present, and that's likely to be the case until June next year, unless his employer can make a special case.

Thankyou Marisa, very early stages re visa as yet and we realise with the current climate if he is successful it wont be until next year.

As VeryStormy says, you should also be aware that employer-sponsored visas are usually only temporary, NOT a path to permanent migration.  They used to be an option but now they are so risky as not to be worth it.

Of course if your aim is to have a 2-4 year adventure (as the kids have left home or before they start senior school, or you don't have any anyway) then a sponsored temp visa is a great option. You know you are going home at the end but it's much quicker to get in the first place.

You may if you like AUS then look into ways to extend that to a PR - but as Marisa says this is getting harder all the time so look on it as a potential bonus and not a given

If you know you want to stay in AUS it makes sense to go for a 189/190/491 visa straight away - note the big niggle right now is the entire migration programme is shutdown for COVID
