Once registered she can start applying but most places dismiss offshore applicants so she might be better waiting until she arrives. Having said that she could give an availability date, they might like that! Bit of certainty for them. Address shouldn’t matter I wouldn’t have thought. My tips - UK applicants often don't address the selection criteria and don't make it to interview (especially when there are lots of applicants). People tend to want to fill vacancies as soon as they can - so if faced with similar candidates and one is off shore and one on - they will probably opt for the one who can start earliest. Wonderingaloud Posted February 4, 2019 Share Posted February 4, 2019 She needs to be registered with APHRA, this can take time as processing times have blown out (as with most things it seems). I would get onto that ASAP if you haven’t already. But you need to present in person 3 months (I think) after it’s granted so timing is important. Depemding on what type of nursing she does (if it’s more specialist) she may get lucky if she at least expresses an interest with the NUMs and is able to meet / excel at the performance criteria for job descriptions. But if it’s just general type nursing I would wait until you are here as there will likely be many applicants and any interview panel is going to select those who are on shore already and ready to start. I applied for 3 jobs and had phone interviews for all of them. All 3 were positive with 2 job offers and the 3rd one is looking good too I got in touch with potential employers as soon as jobs I was interested in were advertised. I sent them my CV with a cover letter explaining my plans to return to Australia. Luckily I had a response from everyone I contacted. Some have kept my CV on file for future opportunities. Depending on when you are planning on making the move I would suggest your partner starts applying for the jobs she is interested in to make employers aware of her skills and provide a cover letter explaining your intentions. As others have mentioned she will need to have registered with AHPRA so I would get that done prior to any job applications as I’m sure this would be considered in the selection criteria plus most job adverts state you must have it when applying.
