We will be applying for the 143 permanent visa when we get there. Can we buy a new house on this visa with no problem and are we entitled to the first time buyers and new homes grant? KitCat Posted November 18, 2018 Share Posted November 18, 2018 Hi Freedy, You can buy a house, but in NSW at least you wouldn’t meet the definition of a local buyer (no indefinite visa) so would be charged the 4% foreign buyer levy. rammygirl Posted November 19, 2018 Share Posted November 19, 2018 I think you would also need FIRB (foreign investor) approval too as you are not PR. Which state are you moving too? Rules vary. For example, in Queensland you cannot get the grant if you have previously owned a house anywhere in the world.
