Hi Gurpreet,

Why you delayed for lodgement of visa ?I think once you got invitation your points doesn't matter. You have to provide evidences for claimed points at the time of invitation. If I am wrong please clarify.

We were planning for 190 SA..But with our current points we cud go for 489 only.we applied for 489 but even after getting invite for 489 we decided to give pte exams till the 2 month time limit to apply for visa and giving multiple pte's delayed our final lodgenent for visa.. Eventually ended up for 489 ...our agent just wanted to take a chance ...(pte ofcourse).

We wud have ignored 489 in case got desired pte score and apply fresh for 190  ..

I hope u understand wat i m trying to say..

Regards...

Pls does a UK citizen need English exam for assessment and migration to Australia as a mental health nurse

Technically I don't think you do. But it is very rare that people won't as it is usually needed to get the required points. (you can claim up to 20)

That's right! Your UK passport is good enough for the Aus government, so no English test is required.

We needed the 20 points just to be able to apply for SA sponsorship, otherwise we wouldn't be here now.

Everyone else here gave you information about the passport being good enough for the English requirements for the visa (if you need more points then you will need to take the test). For registration as a nurse with AHPRA you will need your education to have been taught and assessed in English. If your education is from the UK you are fine but if not you will possibly need an English exam.

There are some good threads on Poms that will give advice about getting your AHPRA registration.

Hi all, loving the thread and hope one day to meet you on the beach for a beer. Myself and my husband have decided on SA for a state sponsorship (hopefully) we are very early in the process and undecided between the 489 or the 190

489 visa gives us 70 points, 190 gives us 65, we're worried 65 may not be enough for 190 by the time we apply.

We have two children aged 15 & 11 (16 & 12 by the time we move, after eldest has done her GCSE's)

my husband is an electrician and the main applicant and I'm a critical care nurse although I am not currently working as a nurse and I doubt I will be when we emigrate as I have CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome) we have had this looked into by a medical team who feel my condition will not have any affect on our visa application.

Very excited to be starting the process and its great reading how far some of you have come and how exciting some of you are moving in the next few months.

I had 65 points on a 190 and 70 on a 489. I decided to do the 489 for the same reason you have mentioned. I got my visa granted.

My points have gone up now anyway due to more work experience but would have missed out as my occupation went into high points.

My advice would be to grab it before it's too late! I would get your foot in the door with the 489.

PS: you're more than welcome to come for drinks!

Welcome to the thread!  Good luck on your state sponsorship, I found that part of the process relatively easy and somewhat enjoyable. After applying for the visa, waiting for the case officer contact or a visa grant is just awful. That's where some of us are sitting at the moment.

Keep us posted on your progress!

Welcome aboard.

I'm also an electrician and applied for a 190 visa with 65 points Had the invite back within 3 weeks after submitting my EOI and now a few days off 3 months into visa lodgement.

Good luck, and if your husband needs any advice regarding skills assessment then please feel free to contact me and I will try and help out the best I can.

Welcome to the thread! I would agree to@jetblast . Go for 489. I initially waited for around 6 months for 190 for NSW under stream 2, only to find out steam 2 being scrapped and lost 5 points due to age. I eventually went for 489 and now awaiting my grant. Good luck with your process and see you soon!

Hast got this email:

The Commonwealth Department of Home Affairs has announced changes this week (with immediate effect) to the combined list of eligible skilled occupations.

As a result of these changes, Immigration SA has reviewed the State Nominated Occupation List (SNOL) and Supplementary Skilled List (SSL). Three occupations will be added to the SNOL (Statistician, Multimedia Specialist and Software and Application Programmers nec) and 32 occupations will be added to the SSL in the afternoon of Friday 15 March.

The Commonwealth Government has removed five occupations from the STSOL and therefore, these occupations are no longer available for state nomination.

There are no changes to the occupations available for the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS).

We just got that too.

Had a look and Sophie's job that she got sponsored for has been taken off the list - Watch and Clock Maker and Repairer. It won't affect us as we've already got the nomination, or at least that's what I assume - I've emailed our MA to be sure.

I'm taking it as a good sign. I reckon they didn't have a single watchmaker apply for SA sponsorship for years and now they've got one, they like "Ah, now we have one - that will fill our quota for the next 5 years". In other words, they assume the visa will be fine 🙂

On a broader sense, loads of new occupations being added will be great news for loads of people! Especially as they haven't increased the high points threshold yet and most of them are for high points.

Hello People!

Hope everyone is doing great 🙂 Thought I'd jump in and share my application status with you all and be part of the madness 😛

I lodged my visa application for SA 489 on Jan 28th '19.
-Offshore applicant (+wife and baby)
-80 points total including state nom
-135112 ICT Project Manager

I see they closed the "High Points" category on Mar 6th. Does this affect my application in any way?

Cheers!

Morning all I have a question if anyone can answer it please.

I submitted my EOI to SA & skillselect 2 weeks ago for a 190 visa, if any rules change regarding my trade or points during this time would that make my EOI void?

Also if my EOI gets accepted and again anything changed before I submitted my visa application would that stop my application?

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

My understanding is that SA will assess you based on their occupations list and conditions as they stood the day you submitted your application. So changes after that shouldnt affect your sponsorship chances.

I think this again happens the day you submitt your visa application - so you are assessed on the points you qualify for on the day you submit the visa Application.

Hope this helps - not quite 100% on this so anyone else want to correct me, go ahead [emoji16]
