Ashutosh
Hi , I am from India. I have worked in Australia before for 4 years as a Geologist (Oil & Gas) under 457 visa but I never applied for PR. Now I am in India and I am 40 yrs old and now I want to move to Australia. I had submitted EOI for 489 visa in April 2017 but still haven't got any response! Should I submit application for 190 Visa or continue waiting for 489 visa? I m having 65 points. My Ielts score is 7.5 and it will expire in a year time.

I live in Tasmania and I doubt very much that there would be work for geologists here. My sons have friends who are geologists and they work overseas as there was not much work in Australia for them. One of them is in Chile and the other in Norway.
VERYSTORMY
You may just have to wait, but there is no gauruntee that just because a state has an occupation on its list that they will actually sponsor. Particularly if there are very few jobs for an occupation and there would be very few for an oil geologist in Tasmania.

Okay, so that's the reason that I still haven't heard from them because there are no jobs only!! That's very bad. I don't know what to do now? Whether to continue waiting but that looks futile now! or try applying for 190 visa? but that will also be the same then, since oil and gas sector is totally down. The oil and gas sector is totally down. I don't know what to do now, continue waiting or go for 190 visa? But, that will also be the same case! And Geologist is the only occupation for which I can apply!

Looks like Aussie geologists have had to choose other countries where the work is these days.
