Skal
Hi! This might be a silly question, but will my (BT) UK house phones work in Australia? Are the telephone ports the same as UK? Thanks..
northshorepom
Wall socket is different but the RJ11 socket on the phone is the same (this is an international standard) Phone unit should work with a new lead between the wall socket and the phone. Or you can connect the phone to internet or whatever. May as well bring them if that's the reason for the question
amibovered
But [h=2]Telecommunications equipment[/h] [h=3]Telephones, modems, answering and facsimile machines[/h] Telecommunications equipment purchased in another country will not be suitable or safe for use in Australia. Telecommunications equipment such as telephones, modems, answering machines and facsimile machines may only be connected to an Australian telecommunications network if the equipment bears either the 'RCM' or the 'A-Tick' regulatory compliance mark. RCM A-Tick If the equipment does not carry a compliance mark, it is not suitable for use in Australia and it is illegal to connect it to a telecommunications network. Penalties may be imposed for illegal connection. http://www.acma.gov.au/theACMA/bringing-communications-equipment-into-australia
northshorepom
Fair enough I'd still do it, but then I do plenty of other things here I shouldn't as well according to the strict letter of the law (like wire up my own light fittings, rip DVDs I've bought into digital copies for personal use, jaywalk, ride a bicycle without a bell, etc etc etc) Your call

Quoll
Phones are cheap as chips anyway, why bother with something that will be illegal? I thought it was something to do with the frequencies used by the cordless phones but not worth the hassle
Que Sera Sera
Never ever use our landline . Our cordless phone just sits there in the office gathering dust. They are cheap as chips to buy here, I wouldn't bother.
george70
Ours has worked for 9 years. Although, no one uses it to be fair. Landlines are a bit pointless these days.
