kellyhawken
Hello I have found a possible Sponsor and before my family move We feel it's a good idea to have a work trial. Looking to work for 2 weeks ASAP and would like to know if the 600 temp working visa is the only one that allows us to do paid work and earn a wage for 2 weeks and if that's the cheapest and quickest way? We need to get a white card as soon as we arrive. We Know we can get that on arrival. Thanks for any help Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Suzukiscottie
https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/600- It's not a "work visa",it's a visitors visa. You can use it to visit Australia, say for a conference, but you can't work in Aus for an Aussie employer and earn a wage in Australia. Nemesis
This visa is for people who want to travel to Australia to: do short-term, highly specialised, non-ongoing work participate in non-ongoing cultural or social activities at the invitation of an Australian organisation, or in limited circumstances, participate in an activity or work relating to Australia’s interests. https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/400- Doesn't sound like what you are after. Who is inviting you?

Nemesis
Our potential sponsor Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Never heard of anyone else doing it, but I guess it might work if you are specialised enough. Need to talk to someone with more expertise than me. Not sure about the 'non-ongoing' bit though.
Quoll
How old are you? If you are under 30 and go by yourself to try it for a couple of weeks then a WHV might fit the bill but otherwise there aren't any taste and try visas! If you're sponsor is prepared to go through with it they should get you a 457 then you'd be good to go. They'll probably still build in a probationary period which might be 3 or 6 months
kellyhawken
My husband is 33 he has been told by his sponsor he needs a working visa in order to get paid for the 2 week trial. A friend of ours has been to Australia a few times in the last year working for a large company laying specialised flooring for 2 weeks at a time. My husband does the same type of work. We thought he could do the same before we go For the sponsor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Raul Senise
A subclass 400 visa would not be appropriate if the intention is to remain in the position long term. A requirement of the subclass 400 visa is that the work being undertaken is "not on going" (generally less than 3 months). As such, if the intention is to remain there permanently after the trial, you will have difficulty meeting the "not on going" requirement. You also have the issue that undertaking a job trial would be unlikely to meet the definition of highly specialised work.
