Offshore Opportunities

Hello all looking for some advice,

Working through my visa as we speak. Ive been contacting some agencies before leaving the Uk to try and get an idea of job availability but had no replies from companies or agencies. Whats the prospects for offshore workers in OZ just now? Would any of them even entertain me before we leave? Its a massive jump to leave the UK to OZ without a job which is kinda scary prospect for me.

If by 'Offshore' you mean oil and gas, oil is a global commodity and as such, it sells for the same price ex-Australia as it does anywhere else.

I'm sure you can draw your own conclusions from that. Apologies if I've misunderstood what you meant by Offshore.

I work in the offshore oil and gas sector here, it's on its knees at the moment. Some specialist skills may get work, but consider that a lot of rigs have left the coast in the last year, and major projects have been completed without new ones being started. It's much the same as it is elsewhere in the world, but probably not quite as bad as the North Sea.

Im currently working as an operations team leader ex control room operator. The north sea is grimm just now. Which is kinda whats worrying me about OZ. i used to work in refinries onshore so that would be an option. However i had a look and cant find any refineries in OZ apart from the ones they closed?

Hi Frank, the following refineries are still operational to the best of my knowledge. Viva Geelong (Vic), Exxon Altona (Vic), BP Kwinana (WA) & Caltex Brisbane (QLD).

As others have mentioned the market is slow, but it does seem to be moving along better than the N Sea.

I'd imagine with your background it's worth applying to various projects that are at commissioning/construction stage being run by Inpex LNG, Chevron LNG & various others including Shell.
