Sandsmuir
Looking to sort out a car for when we arrive in brisbane in a couple of weeks. Think leasing is out so its buying. Any recommendations of garages or best local papers/websites to look in etc. makes to avoid. Needs to be a good size family car, reliable as its going to take us up the coast. srg73
Car sales worked for us. We bought from a local VW dealer and to give you an indication, 2010 VW Golf 2.0 TDi Comfortline with Sport pack added plus phone kit and 50,000kms, one owner and full service history. Paid $17,000.00 and has been brilliant. Just need to have it serviced as now at 60,000kms, cleaned and back up for sale as now have company car. Not a sales pitch as not for sale yet but just to show good cars are out there. We elected to pay for 50% and get 50% loan to establish a credit record which has helped. German cars can be expensive (Audi for some reason are very expensive) Japanese can be cheaper and reliable, Korean etc cheaper and can be good if a newer car. Cars not popular as new car purchases after reading paper over the weekend, Alfa, some Fords and some Holden's. S

Guest
There are a lot of Hyundai's and Mazda's on the road here these days could probably get a good deal on one of those.
ArrowsEng
Carsales.com.au is what most people will look at as it has a significant share of the used car market on its website and it shows cars for all over Australia. I would personally stay away from VW / Audi / Skoda cars, not that they aren't great (in fact they are fantastic - I have one) but because their servicing costs are extortionate when it comes to the 60K, 105K, type services for DSG gearbox and timing belts where the services are $1000 to $1500+ If you are travelling a distance then maybe look at one of the newish medium SUV's for space. Something like the Nissan Dualis (Qashqi for POM's) or Holden Captiva comes in 5 or 7 seat options to give extra space for luggage.
