noonanjohnc
Hello, I hope you're all well. My mother in law's brother is visiting us from Liverpool in May. He'll be staying with her the whole time and she's worried about things they can do. I've been to the tourist information building in the CBD and I've come out with a pile of leaflets and timetables for. However, I was wondering if anyone out there had any suggestions. Some background - My mother in law is 65 and a very nervous person. My wife and I, as well as my brother in law, have offered to drive some places at the weekend, but she's looking for things to do she can do during the week. She has a clean license so can drive anywhere as long as she doesn't have to go longer than 30 minutes and she's a ten minute walk from Eltham station. Her brother is early 60s. He's not in the greatest shape, so it'll be unlikely they'll be absailing together. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Guest The Pom Queen
Its very hard when they put a time limit on it, my MIL is the same she won't go anywhere that's further than 20 minutes in the car, which in Australia means we can't take her anywhere. If you are driving and she doesn't mind a long day out you have Philip Island or Sovereign Hill. Would she drive to the Dandenong ranges? They could go on puffing Billy, I know they also have special events over the year as well http://www.puffingbilly.com.au/news-events/
Guest The Pom Queen
Don't forget the Yarra Valley and the wine tours as well
noonanjohnc
I'll put across the suggestion. You're right though. The time limit does restrict things.
Guest The Pom Queen
I'll put across the suggestion. You're right though. The time limit does restrict things. Is it just that she doesn't like driving more than 30 minutes at a time, as I'm sure they could have a few stops for coffee, etc
rosiew
The MCG tour goes down well when they are in the city. As does a Yarra cruise. The Botanic Gardens at Cranbourne (which is the Australian garden). They can get the train to Ballarat or up to Echuca. Or train to Brighton Beach, Aspendale or Frankston to see some sea....and don't forget there are heaps of bus tours to Sovereign Hill, the Dandenongs, Penguins, etc etc
noonanjohnc
It's more that she gets panicky BEFORE she gets in the car. If she knows the journey is 30 minutes or left, she can handle it. But longer and she starts about worrying where she'll find a petrol station, if she'll get lost etc. Maybe if her brother is with she'll be okay. Thanks for the suggestions (I forgot to say before)
Lambethlad
Perfect day would be - up early for breakfast at Southbank - then down to the Casino for a flutter - lunch at China Town - High Tea at the Windsor - Dinner on the Tram Car Restaurant (late sitting) - then back to the Casino till late - and what the hell - may as well get a room at the Casino for the night! noonanjohnc
All, Just wanted to say thank you for all the advice everyone gave. In the end, her brother didn't turn up due to various factors. Anyway, I realised today that I hadn't thanked everyone. So... Thanks!
