Had a great Christmas, one of the only times we haven't had every one at ours. Flew to Sydney on Monday, spent the next few days with daughter + partner, full Christmas lunch her first time to cook. Also some of their friends there. Watched the sydney to Hobart race start and Then flew back to Brisbane to spend time with son + wife. Their first as a married couple. We have been really spoilt and I feel quite tearful as it has been so good, not least of which I have done nothing except eat an drink!!! Could get used to this.

We had a lovely quiet day, although it was slightly stressful because we were waiting for news of our cat who was at the vets. I woke up at 3am because there were a couple of possums having a dispute on the roof. I tried to go back to sleep, but lay awake worrying about the cat. The girls woke up at about 4.30am, managed to get them to wait until about 5.30 before they opened their stockings. We then went downstairs and the girls opened their presents (OH and I don't bother), had croissants and fruit for breakfast. for lunch we had salad and some lamb chops and roast potatoes that I cooked on the bbq, and then we sat around and played games, read books etc in the afternoon, waiting for the vet to phone. It rained most of the day, so we didn't go out. We had some cheese and biscuits for supper. We don't make much fuss at Christmas really, and prefer it to be just a nice quiet day together.

Yesterday we did some craft things with the girls, and played in the garden. We had to wait again for the vet to phone, and then we spent three hours driving up to North Ryde and back to pick the cat up. Today OH is back at work, and I am having some internet time whilst the girls dig dinosaur bones out of plaster of Paris 'rocks'.

Lovely family day! What's wrong with your cat?

My OH came downstairs on Sunday morning to find her eating some sewing thread that she had managed pull from my closed sewing box (must have been a tiny end poking out or something). He pulled it out, but by the afternoon she had been sick, had stopped eating and was behaving very oddly. I took her to the local 24 hour vet, they kept her in overnight but couldn't find anything wrong, so we picked her up Monday afternoon. On Tuesday morning, I took her to our usual vet (who hadn't been open on Sunday), because she still wasn't right and had this funny cough/retching thing that she kept doing. He sent us straight to a small animal specialist intensive care unit. They kept her in and did x-rays and ultrasound but couldn't find anything wrong. I kept telling them about the cough/retching, and finally they listened to me when they happened to see her do it. She had an endoscopy, and they found a sewing needle lodged in the tissues around the oesophagus, which they managed to get out. She is a very, very lucky cat, and the specialist vet that saw her had apparently never seen anything like it!

She is home now, and feeling much better.

As soon as I saw sewing thread I thought oh not a needle!! Poor little thing! She is indeed very lucky, glad she's on the mend. You'll have to take up knitting instead!

It was great! Drove down to Busselton Jetty and then to Margaret River. Had a lovely swim and some beers at the Prevelly beach whilst watching the Westpac Lifesaver chopper patrolling the vicinity ( I believe they spotted a shark near Scarborough beach and it had to be closed), and then drove back to Perth. Been nursing the sunburns for the last couple days :)

well it started off good.....then went all downhill from there...

Woke up Xmas morning bright as a button having been to a beach party the night before. Was amazed I wasn't hung over, put all the corny Xmas songs on full blast and started cooking. Decided this year to make steak, king prawns, salad and cheesy spuds for a change ......easy peasy....poured me a few drinks to help with the cooking skills like you do....

We invited elderly parents so they stayed overnight. They brought the fluffy white handbag dog which is frightened of it's own shadow - with all the excitement of xmas it decided to escape and run away :arghh:

So the oldies were fretting, kept wittering on it would be eaten by a snake, or bitten by a spider or not find its way home in the dark ( more like I would kill the bleedin thing when it came home for spoiling everyone's Xmas). Then to cap off the evening the half pished father decided to walk around looking for fluffy handbag dog in bare feet and he got blisters the size of dustbin lids

So there we were, sober as a judge, no drinking, no appetite to eat, two depressed parents minus one fluffy handbag dog and the old man with feet like balloons. And one MAJORLY pissed off OH for once again having his Xmas ruined by my delinquent deranged family with the fluffy handbag dog:mad:

You couldn't make this crap up - it was just like the Royle family.....but worse.....

Thanks for asking:ssign8:

Thanks - yeh apparently it turned up at 2am while I was in bed we live on an island it couldn't go anywhere

I got up at daylight the following morning to go on patrol in the car and noticed the oldies had it in bed with them,

Fluffy handbag dog and my parents slept in while me and the OH were wide awake by then
