Crown

Stayed there last week for our Anniversary/Der Fuhrer's birthday.

A fantastic hotel, we've stayed in some great places in US, Mexico, Caribbean etc. but it's up there with the very best.

Went to Rockpool, outstanding. Anyone been? What do you reckon?

The Merrywell pub is great, and there are about 5 bars inside the casino now.

Spent the whole day by the pool, it's like a Puff Daddy video.

The ale and food price isn't so bad but the room cost can be severe. We had a deal, $199, which was a bargain to be fair.

Yeah, we said we'd try Nobu next, not been there.

Been to Modo Mio, that's great, as is the French place. New Chinese looks very posh.

The Atrium is always good as well, we take any visitors we have there.

The turnover of the place must be insane. Walking round the casino, there was hardly a spare seat at a table or any of the machines.

  • 2 months later...

Used to live in the apartments behind, so it was our 'local' for drinks and a meal.

I don't mind the place, but it's always heaving. I'm not a gambler, so it's the bars for me.

It's also a bit classier now. They don't even have the UV lights in the bogs anymore!

$199 was a bargain. We've stayed there a couple of times before it was the Crown. Used to get Priority club points through staying at Holiday Inn and it used to be part of the same hotel group, so we were able to get free nights. Now it's Crown we can't use them, they've even taken over the Holiday Inn and made it part of the resort.

Not really a casino person, always find them a bit plasticy. You see the same sort of people in just about every casino around the world. Not going to upset anyone by saying what types but any casino goer will know what I mean.

The Rockpool is way to expensive I reckon. Those guys are taking the piss with the prices. My son used to go to the nightclub there before it changed ownership but he says it has gone downhill since it became the Crown. Never been myself, bit too young a crowd so wouldn't know whether he's right.

Bars were good and it looks better now the dome has gone.

Going to see Grease in June and got a room for about that price for a Saturday night.

Not sure who shells out $650 to stay there normally but would either choose not to drink or take a taxi both ways rather than pay that sort of money.

My wifes work had a Christmas party there. It was good but they were supposed to have a special room rate and it was still about $400. Got a taxi home instead.

The party was good though, fantastic room, good band. We were there pretty early and we catch up with some Scouser friends who my wife works with. The hubby likes a drink like me. We were stood outside the main room for ages and they had a bar near us free. My mate went off for beers and came back with a couple of pints of Guiness. Our bar only had bottled beer but he said there was another free bar around the corner that had a better selection. Next round it was my turn to go and did the same. The wife turned round and asked where we got those from, told her the bar round the corner. It was only someone else's party and free bar. Nobody said a word though.

I reckon if you put some decent clothes on anywhere around Christmas and swanned in to one of the parties as if you belonged, you could have many a free night.

Funny you should say that, we went to a bar/club there for a Xmas party just gone that I never knew existed. We were just led to a lift in the casino and it went upstairs to a load of function rooms I've never seen before. Bit night-clubby and dark for me but Ok if you like that sort of thing. Don't know what it was called but it wasn't the big night club.

We were by the pool area all day, that place is great. Kicked on to the Merrywell and couple of other bars before eating.

Took the youngster to see the Top Gear show last year and I thought I would show him around a bit first. He was only 16 at the time and we had jeans and T shirts on. I went to show him the restaurant that me and the wife had eaten at when we stayed there, it's one that has a balcony over the pool. We wondered in and didn't notice there was a private party in there till we were in. Everyone else was in suits and evening dress but I though it wouldn't hurt to just show him the balcony and pool and go. We were just stood there. looking over the pool when a waiter came round with nibble so we took some, then a girl with drinks, so we had them as well.

My son though it was a great place.

Was back there in January for my wifes birthday. The $199 offer was sold out so we stayed in the other hotel there - which i would not recomend - Crown Promonade.

Went to Nobu again as its my wifes favourite and had a fantastic meal. We did the chefs speacial dinner which i think was 12 courses. Amazing food. Not cheap - the bill came in at $481 for food and a couple of cocktails and a saki. But for a VERY occaisional treat i highly recomend it
