Candygirl
I am sure you will get lots of recommendations as there are some great hotels in HK, but we have been twice and stayed at the South Pacific both times. http://www.southpacifichotel.com.hk/ It is in Wanchai and we like it is very central and we have been able to walk to most places from there and it was also easy to get a bus to Stanley Markets and a cab to MonKok Market in Kowloon. Guest The Pom Queen
We stayed on Hong Kong Island at the L Hotel we managed to get a club room for an excellent price. Taxi's are really cheap to get around. The Holiday Inn on Nathan Road looked to be in an excellent position and we would probably stay there next time. Be warned everyone pushes and shoves and unless you do the same you won't get anywhere.

chellywell
Definitely this one!! http://www.ymcahk.org.hk/main_e.html Please don't let the YMCA put you off - it is a hotel next to the Peninsula with amazing Harbour views. I have been to Hong Kong 3 times, stayed at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile, A hotel in Mong Kok (I think) and a harbour view room at the YMCA. I would stay at the YMCA every time it is brilliant. MARYROSE02
I think I stayed at one of the YMCA hotels - NOT A HOSTEL! - in Waterloo Road. I must Google that to check. I love Hong Kong because it reminds me of both London - with the double decker buses and the bustle of Nathan Road - and Sydney with its harbour, ferries, skyscrapers. Recommendations? I just enjoyed walking the length of Nathan Road, going to the Night Markets - get some fake designer watches!!! I was thwarted in my attempt to go to Macau because I forgot my passport so make sure you take that with you if you want to go. Isn't there a card you can buy like an 'Oyster' card? which covers you for all or most public transport? Take a look at the address for the Anne Black hotel - I wonder if the mods will 'censor' it!!!! The City View is the one I stayed at. MARYROSE02
Thanks Mary Rose the information is great - oh getting excited! You might want to see your GP and see if you need any innoculations for HK? I've got a feeling I had some a few years back.

Unless you're going into rural areas I think you'll be fine as long as you are uptodate with boosters etc - http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations/asia-(east)/hong-kong.aspx Worth getting all your boosters etc checked before coming out here anyway - save having to do it when you're trying to understand a new health provision etc.
