  1. I think (?) I heard that of you were 'looking for work' then you could be eligible....whatever that means...
  2. My daughter was using her inhaler every night in the UK for her breathing and we had to rub cream on after her bath. Since coming here haven't used a thing! Hopefully you'll experience an improvement too? I stocked up on some extra inhalers before we came here - just told doc we were moving and got a couple more. Didn't bother with the cream as we had loads anyway.
  3. For those moving to Sydney - come join our FB group - Moving to Sydney 2013 - where you'll meet others making the move (and those already here) to share stories and experience.... Sorry for plug....!! We're here on 457 visas (and a family) and no complaints so far. It was an easier, quicker and cheaper route for us. Not sure about PR yet....
  4. http://m.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/mar/21/australians-julia-gillard
  5. Sharing information between depts? Now that is novel.
  6. So could it be that Rudd didn't stand as he feels Labor can't win the election whoever is leader, he gets some credibility as being a decent bloke sticking to his word (?), labor lose the election triggering Gillard to resign or another leadership ballot, he stands, wins and then has time to form a better proposition for the next election?
  7. This is what I don't get. Stand and win and that should be the end of it. Not stand and there are still doubts over Gillard. How on earth can you spin this into something positive??
  8. But in most 'normal' positions if you were accused of doing something criminal in work like this, then you'd be suspended at least....decent thing to do would be resign....as Chris Hulme did I recall (although perhaps not soon enough).
  9. So Rudd has just made a statement that he's not running. Excitement over then?
  10. I guess I'm still green here so finding it quite interesting. Only a few minutes before the ballot and there is still only one person to vote for.
  11. If the figures in northshorepom's post are true then it's hardly women's mag stuff tbh...
  12. So, who is your money on? As of 15 mins ago there was still no news about Rudd... But have now had to put kids tv on so unable to keep up. If he comes forward then sounds like it'll be close. If he doesn't then it's a waste of a day I guess...
  13. Oh my God! We really shouldn't complain about our politicians back home...?!
  14. I do wonder how a party can think the public will consider them credible when they keep changing their leader (and the PM) but then this doesn't seem like an unusual occurrence.
  15. Doesn't it happen quick?! Ballot for leadership later and now call for no confidence in PM by Abbot!!
  16. We got them to pack. As we have 2 kids it was the best option for us. I left the house with the kids (leaving husband in charge) and all got done in 1.5 days. We didn't use shipping company's insurance but got our own (saving £300). Can specify self packing or otherwise on insurance. If we did it again I don't think we'd even consider self packing. They also unpacked as much as we wanted here and set up big items of furniture (bed, sofa, table, dresser, shelves, speakers, tv stand).
  17. Unless you're going into rural areas I think you'll be fine as long as you are uptodate with boosters etc - http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations/asia-(east)/hong-kong.aspx Worth getting all your boosters etc checked before coming out here anyway - save having to do it when you're trying to understand a new health provision etc.
  18. Doh - should have read the title! I blame my 2 yr old distracting me?! Anyway, still stand by my comment about Singapore airlines!!
  19. Singapore airlines were great with my 2 young children. Esp when my 2 year old had a meltdown as she was woken by turbulence!
  20. Can it be deferred? I came over on a 457 and was pregnant at the time we applied. I read that if an x ray is required then it can be done in Oz once the child is born (but can't recall what legal visa status you would be under before the birth). Or is that just because I'm from the UK? I only needed a blood test in the end and then we decided to come out after baby was born anyway.
  21. But as was pointed out earlier we don't know the circumstances of the family. As a mum of 2 I would much rather the support of my close family and friends once the baby is born than be in a new country where I didn't know anyone. The OP was asking for advice on the visa, not a judgement on his actions as husband and a prospective father.
  22. Check how much things cost out here if you need to replace them before you sell given the exchange rate.
  23. Check out Meetup online - there's definite an eastern mums group as they look like they are doing a Clovelly walk on Thursday morning.
  24. We used PSS from Bristol to Sydney with a 20ft sole use container plus one 25kg airfreight box. Cost just under £4500 inc clearance here but excluding insurance which we got elsewhere (PSS seemed v expensive for this).
