Has Mothercare really gone into administration in Australia?

I was just doing a bit of research to see what shops will be local to us (Joondalup area) for buying car seats, toys etc The Mothercare site says everything is reduced due to Administration / Liquidation - have they really gone bust?? WOW

From a selfish point of view if they are not going to be open in May when we arrive any suggestions as to the best alternative to go to - car seats being my main concern.

In Australia more people buy car seats etc at lower end department stores such as Target, Big W and K Mart where the prices tend to be cheaper than specialised baby shops. Car seat fitting services are available if needed too. We have never been big on specialised baby goods retailers, but you will find a few. Don't worry , you will have plenty of shoice.

We went in to a mothercare here and came straight back out. It was very expensive compared to other places. You can get car seats in lots of places such as target, so you won't have any trouble.

The only thing Mothercare has been useful for us here is in getting bedding for our Euro sized cot bed - no other shop in Aus sells it, so it was that or order online

Kids Central (a useful toy shop) was owned by the same company, sad to see that go. There are a few Mothercare shops still open I think, last time I went in Chatswood Chase which was a week or two back I could have sworn they were still trading, think the administrators are keeping some on. Going bak to Chats Chase today so will have a look

I agree with the above, Mothercare is soooo expensive over here! We're in Melbourne so can't help in terms of car seats, but will echo what others have said - Big W etc will have good ones at a reasonable cost.

When it comes to clothes I do lots of shopping for my children online from the UK - the winter/Jan sales were great for getting cheap winter clothes from places like John Lewis and Debenhams, as well as M&S. The seasons work out well too as you get the cheap stuff as you need it here!

Over here I have found Cotton On Kids to be great - cheap as chips and the stuff lasts and washes well. I hate paying lots of money for kids clothes as they're in things for 5 minutes and then outgrow them so really do recommend Cotton On - I get the occasional bits and bobs for myself there too.

I happened to be dropping my in-laws off in Taren Point in Sydney this morning, and noticed that the Mothercare has 50% off closing down sale. It seemed to be fairly busy. Probably get a few bargains at the moment, so might be worth a look for those with younger kids.

Yeah, Chatswood one also, although 20% seemed to be the order of the day

Thanks everyone - useful info for me to look in to.

I have looked at Target and BigW online and they seem to have a very limited range (between 9-12) of seats to choose from. Do they have a much larger selection in-store?

Thanks Ken I had not heard of Baby Bunting as had been searching for shops NOR. My husband will be around the airport for work so maybe the Cannington store will be handy. They sell the 2 seats that I have been looking at so that may be simplest.

I sometimes think Mothercare here deserves to go bust as their customer service is so appalling.....

Thanks again everyone.

PS looking at the BabyLove Ezy Combo for my 1 year old and the Safe N Sound Hi Liner for my 4 year old. Both seem to have excellent safety, comfort and useability reviews.........anyone have experience of either of them??
